  while altruism in its purest form is hard to find, that doesnt make benevolent actions selfish. for some charity is like bungie jumping, they get a rush.. nothing more.. and the rush is momentary. so to say they help for the high.. is that true selfishness?
  
  I dont believe that love is selfish. some would argue sure but making the person you love happy makes you happy.. they have a point but that arguement is decidedly circular.. who is to say its not the other way around..that you made that person happy, and your own happiness was an unanticipated side effect?
  
  so while it can be argued that absolute altruism may not exist, I dont belive we act out of absolute narcissism either. I believe the truth lays somewhere in the middle. farther to one end for some of us, and farther to the other end for others based on our own reasons for our own actions.

  unfortunately anonymous, you would be mistaken. there allready have been movements that suggest that the holocaust never happened (sad but true story) the arguement appearantly coming from a colective of people who refuse to believe that one man (in this case hitler) could be so evil as to as to cause the distruction of that many helpless people. we must remember history as it was. the bad with the good. theres another school of thought cropping up in american history that believes the american colonists were being unruley and should have submitted to king george because that would have been better than the lives lost in the war for independence. so yes off hand I would say “white history” as you so lovingly called it is in danger of being snuffed in the name of political correctness as well.

  sorry to hear it man. unfortunately theres no accounting for people. especially the ones that refuse to be accountable for themselves. good on you for not going postal on him. life’s too short to spend it paying for a murder rap.
  and big willy makes a good point too. until people can put the “I” into the action. they will never comprehend that it was they who committed the act and not the act itsself.

  the true irony is the arguement is self defeating. free will is an illusion but you get to chose wheather or not you believe that. thus you get to pick your illusion (to an extent) thus the illusion bends to will. there are no biological imperatives for criminal behavior. one simply decides wheather or not to act in accord with the law. you can choose to follow a set of principles, beliefs, etc, or not to. you chose what to wear or what to eat or even.. in another extreme example wheather or not your going to wear or eat anything at all. maybe the choice is life altering, maybe it isnt. but you still get to chose it. so no free will is not an illusion.

  I would say don’t sweat it. several archeologists, astronimers, astrologists, and a palm reader or two are certain that because the mayans didnt do the whole leap year thing, that their end of the world would have allready happened.
  
  but here’s the real barn burner even if we were to assume for a moment that they got it right and some time between the twentieth and twenty third of december the world is going to heave us all off like so many heavy blankets thered really be nowhere to run and no place to hide, so might as well just enjoy the ride. :)
  
  but yeah I wouldnt go take out a 230,000 dollar loan on the off hand chance youll never have to pay it back or anything like that. you’d be betting on the wrong horse.
