• (2 votes) How to “live in the moment”.
  

  I’m replying because I love doing this “living in the moment” type thing even if this was from ahwhile ago. This is something I learned in a Psychology article; When you’re in a rush of a million aspects running through your head and you’re losing sight of the value of time in just one moment, you only have to take a few deep breaths and think of absolutely NOTHING. it’s cool to me. I do it all the time and I feel like I was just lifted from the earth. You relax your mind, your body and your atmosphere. 1st step - YOU ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS;Living in the moment—also called mindfulness—is a state of active, open, intentional attention on the present. When you become mindful, you realize that you are not your thoughts; you become an observer of your thoughts from moment to moment without judging them.
  – To improve your performance, stop thinking about it (unselfconsciousness)But even more important than body awareness, was present-moment awareness. “Be right here right now!” “Just let go and let yourself be in the moment.”
  : –To avoid worrying about the future, focus on the present (savoring).
  Often, we’re so trapped in thoughts of the future or the past that we forget to experience, let alone enjoy, what’s happening right now. We sip coffee and think, “This is not as good as what I had last week.” We eat a cookie and think, “I hope I don’t run out of cookies.”
  Why does living in the moment make people happier—not just at the moment they’re tasting molten chocolate pooling on their tongue, but lastingly? Because most negative thoughts concern the past or the future.
  
  –Know that you don’t know (engagement).
  You’ve probably had the experience of driving along a highway only to suddenly realize you have no memory or awareness of the previous 15 minutes. Maybe you even missed your exit. You just zoned out; you were somewhere else, and it’s as if you’ve suddenly woken up at the wheel. Or maybe it happens when you’re reading a book: “I know I just read that page, but I have no idea what it said.”
  We become mindless.But if we see the world with fresh eyes, we realize almost everything is different each time—the pattern of light on the buildings, the faces of the people, even the sensations and feelings we experience along the way. Noticing imbues each moment with a new, fresh quality. Some people have termed this “beginner’s mind.”
  Don’t Just Do Something, Sit There.Mindfulness is the only intentional, systematic activity that is not about trying to improve yourself or get anywhere else, explains Kabat-Zinn. It is simply a matter of realizing where you already are. A cartoon from The New Yorker sums it up: Two monks are sitting side by side, meditating. The younger one is giving the older one a quizzical look, to which the older one responds, “Nothing happens next. This is it.”
  You can become mindful at any moment just by paying attention to your immediate experience. You can do it right now. What’s happening this instant? Think of yourself as an eternal witness, and just observe the moment. What do you see, hear, smell? It doesn’t matter how it feels—pleasant or unpleasant, good or bad—you roll with it because it’s what’s present; you’re not judging it. And if you notice your mind wandering, bring yourself back. Just say to yourself, “Now. Now. Now.”

  Thank you all, so much for the response. I am so appreciative of all of the insight. Maybe I’ll just start bringing the right topics up, or saying things differently, and start being more strong. Part of it might be - I’m actually very strong… I don’t cry enough. I’m always keeping things inside. But I feel blessed with your caring. Thank you! & yes, she’s honest I know. But I won’t disrespect my mom, and if she says something I’ll say my respects. & if it turns out I go to the doctor and I’m told I need medication of some sort, I’ll find a way in life to work around a problem I have. My mother I think might be mean about things, I love her but I’ll talk to her about the way she talks to me. Again, I’m grateful for the responses.

  Well, thank you for the reply, really. But my mother and I have been moving all my life. She’s had 3 husbands, and she’s right that I haven’t been able to make a lot of friends. that’s just me. I don’t go along and follow the crowd. But I’m also a pretty dignant person. So when I come to her,and talk to her.. she tells me what’s wrong with me in a sense that i don’t even know is true or not and doesn’t try helping me, but making me feel worse. I’m just so confused. Do I really have problems? that’s all i ask myself, and of course you can’t answer that for me. But my own mother.. the only one I thought would understand.. is making me feel like I should fall off the face of the earth. This is something that I don’t think I could forgive her for… even if she ever apologized. She’s hit me, she’s beaten me up, she’s done things to me before and I don’t even know If I really do need help, or if it’s her. But everyone think she’s great and that she just has a bad temper. She’s smart. She has a good paying job. She’s had all these men that have loved her. & I look at myself.. making good grades, praising the lord, trying to better myself. & I’m so bad!
