The cheese went away for a bit. I was having a little identity crisis! Maybe I asked you this once, but what does “any strange” mean? I assume it’s like asking “what’s new or how’s it going” but I’m curious exactly what it means. All work and no play makes Ginseng a dull girl… but it sounds like you’re still finding time to play. I’ve been working like crazy too. My latest obsession is orienteering… a sport where you run through the woods with a compass and map and find different checkpoints.

Hey Ginseng! How’s your troublemaker housemate shaping up? Did she ever fess up completely about spilling tea on your computer? I can’t believe that! What did she think, you just wouldn’t notice?! Hey, no fair, I don’t have any sisters, much less one that lives in Nice!

Good god i’ve had a ridiculous week! My laptop broke :( It was broken in fact!! My new housemate (a girl i’ve just met in the last month) spilled tea all over it and didn’t tell me! So i came home from work (i got a new job..it’s great!! ..well so far anyway!)So came home from work and the laptop screen wouldn’t work, asked her about it and she said she hadn’t been near it..so that night a brown, tea-like substance seeped out of it so i knew what had happened but she still wouldn’t admit to it!! Eventually i got her to confess to ‘maybe’ spilling tea ‘near’ my laptop..I was raging..had she told me earlier, i could have just dried it out :( Anyway long story short i’ve managed to get it working pretty much completely apart from a few keys..the most important ones like ‘w’ and the ctrl key!!! But the whole experience has left me with a little less faith in humankind..like i was doing her a huge favour by letting her use it in the first place, she knows i’m not an angry person yet she still wouldn’t and still won’t really fess up!!
Annnyway..yeah south america is next on my list..well next to asia anyway! I was in Nice in France, my sis lives there so it’s always handy for a quick getaway! :D

Wow! I can’t believe you were back in France and Italy! It seems like so long since I walked the Cinque Terre… can’t believe it was only like five months ago. I’d give anything to be hanging out at the little harbor in Vernazza slurping down some gelato right now. Where did you go in France? Paris? Alps? Riviera? Congrats on your new love interest! Hope you two have lovely time in London! I’m doing spectacular. Been working hard to save up for my next backpacking adventure… probably somewhere in South America. My goal is to do as much traveling as you… haha.

Yeah, it’s interesting how the mind works. When you are little, you just can’t process stuff like that so you wonder how your mind handled it or if you changed it somehow when you were dealing with it so you could cope.

i think my family circumstances could be a lot worse! Like we left my father when I was 13 so from 0-13 was serious hell and everything after that is rosey by comparison! I know that nothing will ever be as bad as that again coz i just won’t let it…i think that’s why mam’s episode in france really hit me hard..i’ve made the decision not to be in that kind of situation again and for that few minutes when she lunged at me I felt 12 again! It also makes me think about the past though..like my memory from 0-13 is seriously sketchy..what if i’m not remembering properly..you know it was always mammy=good, daddy=bad..i’m starting to think that maybe it wasn’t that clear cut..
ugh..and i hate that she stayed with him so long too..like she shouldn’t have had her 5 kids in that much danger for so long(she actually stayed with him 22 years)..i know that’s an unfair thing to say too though coz i know it’s a difficult situation to be in for her too..i just hope i’ll never be that weak..
..I’m starting to feel very dramatic and american here ;) Well done for remembering my lack of height too! I feel like i know so little about you :)

It was more just silly because to be honest, i’ve never given a single thought to her will. I think i was shocked that she thought money mattered to me at all! I mean I’ve been completely independent of her for the last three years of college..i’ve never asked her for a penny in all that time so yeah it was more confusing than anything else! I dunno, she just seems so unstable! like literally my whole life, i’ve been there as her shoulder to cry on but it never works both ways. She takes no interest in any part of my emotional life..like when my first proper relationship of a year broke up, she said nothing and again with my most recent boyfriend,i was heartbroken when that ended..i still am to a point. Yet when i called her up to tell her, she just changed the subject! i just genuinely think i’ve done all that i can for her and it’s not worth my health to do anything more!!!

I understand. I’m happy that you trust me enough to tell me about your mam and dad. I can’t believe she threatened to leave you out of her will! That must have been so devastating and confusing for you.

She’s always been very very supportive of my singing, she’s my biggest fan really…ah there’s more to this story really..
Like I was always a really good girl. From a very early age I was given a lot of responsibility. I didn’t have much of a childhood and was just always happy to do what I could for the family. Mam’s a real stickler for tradition..really close-minded in a lot of ways..like my brothers would always get help with their education, whereas i totally excelled at school..drinking was out of the question..it still is in fact..i had like one drink too many at my 21st and she wouldn’t talk to me for 2 weeks after!!She still won’t talk to me about it! She just gets very stubborn and even though I seriously never put a foot wrong..I was freakishly good..i still wasn’t ever allowed any lee-way when it came to trusting me..like she’d trust me to do her accounts..jees i’ve been doing them since i was about 8! But just not to ever stay at a friends house for example..even when i was 18, just wasn’t allowed! But i never caused a fuss about it, i just accepted that i wasn’t allowed do stuff and just didn’t want to cause trouble. And then, my sister got married. She got married in France, i was bridesmaid, had to do loads of ridiculous organising, but gladly did it, it was my job like, i was really happy to be a bridesmaid for my sister like! So got to france, had never even been on hols with my family before and was really looking forward to it! But when we got there, mam just went mental! Like i had loads of loose ends to tie up for my sister and my mother went crazy that I wasn’t spending enough time with her..she threatened to leave me out of her will and went to hit me and everything..it was just a really shocking experience for me, one that she’s never apologised for and one that i don’t think i’ll ever get over..like i grew up with an abusive father and I just can’t trust anyone who has a blind temper like that so genuinely now whenever i see her, i go into a total state of alertness and just tension really..just can’t relax around her..so that’s it really..i hate going home!!

Oh there’s tension between me and my mam..I just can’t stand being around her much anymore, she really stresses me out!!
And especially this time because i’ve just finished my finals and have no idea what i want to do next so there’ll be a million questions and judgements and i won’t be standing up straight enough,talking properly and will have lost too much weight!! Ah it’s just the usual mother stuff really..she’s just slightly more mental than average! I wish it were even nearly warm here, i cannot get over the crappiness of the weather here this summer! I know what real humidity feels like though and I totally don’t blame you for not feeling motivated to play..when the weather’s like that you just have to sit very still and hope that the breath movements of your chest aren’t too much to make you sweat to death..

I hate packing too. It’s overwhelming. I procrastinate when I get overwhelmed too.

It’s too humid, I guess. I like to be cool when playing. Not much for mountains around here, unfortunately.

Oh Limon, I wish! No..I’m a worrier, i worry about the silliest things! I’m going home tomorrow for the first time in about 2 months..the longer i stay away the harder it is to go back! It’s never as bad as i worry about it being but I just DREAD the thoughts of going home!! That and I hate packing!! So i just tense up into a ball, look on ebay for ages..find random things to do until I realise it’s 0416 and I haven’t packed a thing!!
I would have thought summer time would be perfect to get practicing! You can totally play outside..just find a secluded mountain? Mountains just ooze inspiration for creativity

Wow, sounds like an awesome show! Were there lots of people there? Did you hop up and down in your wellies during Knights of Cydonia? :) Did you sing along with Tori Amos during Cornflake Girl? I love that song.

Adventure racing is a team sport - they give you a map and you have to navigate to different checkpoints. There are different sections. You usually travel by foot, mountain bike and kayak. The scenery is spectacular! Some races have mystery challenges. For this race we had to swim out to a raft and retrieve a golf ball. It’s really fun! It’s kinda like going to an Irish music festival in the rain.

Music festival was fab!! I’m still recovering!! Dunno if you’d know many of the bands..Gossip were ok, Avril Lavigne was there! She was a really good performer actually, not usually my thing but she was cool..snow patrol were ok, i’m not a fan really..Tori Amos was really cool! But Muse were amazing!! Total highlight of the whole thing! I wore wellies so the mud didn’t bother me :)

I’m great. I did an adventure race yesterday so I’m relaxing today. My team didn’t do very well, but we had fun. Hope all is well.

oh my god! Look at you go! Always looking out for me :) I’m useless at going to bed early!! I just can’t seem to get to bed before 230 every night and then I’m up at 7..it’s taking it’s toll!
But now it’s the weekend..WOO! I’m heading to a giant music festival tomorrow!! This should be a great thing..however Ireland has developed a monsoon season out of nowhere! There’s been torrential rain for three weeks solid..the festival is a giant field!! Good times!
