  I bet you overthink most all situations. You should feel lucky you’re just a freshman. You have plenty of time to change all that! Just find a group of people you’d like to hang with at lunch and just strike up a conversation. Watch the NBA/NFL games (assuming you’re a guy) and use that as a conversation starter, like “Did you see Kobe dunk over (whoever) last night!” or “Did any of you guys catch that Giants game where Eli threw 12 interceptions?”. People will let you know, by body language or straight ignoring you, if you’re being overly annoying. Don’t even think of that when you’re talking with people.
