It could be that they own the building, but are wanting to get a lein against it for funds to invest in other properties. At the apartment complex in which I used to live, the landlord did that. Some people from a financial institution came in and looked over the property, and I never heard anything else about it again. My landlord used the funds borrowed against my building to purchase and renovate another building.
If you are worried, you could always contact the person you are renting from and ask if you are subject to being booted due to what is going on and they will probably explain to you what their purpose is in doing this. - written 2 months, 4 weeks ago
