my mom used to not let me and my bro go trick or treating. we would go to “fall festival” at church which happened to be on halloween and we wore costumes - but nothing evil. it really hurt that we couldnt do what the “normal” kids do (not many kids were ever there and switched churches alot so it wasnt like we were with friends) — something that happened alot in my childhood. i’m a christian now and i have two sweet nieces. my sister is not a christian, but if she were it would kill me to think of her doing the same to them. i always go out with my nieces trick-or-treating, but to me it’s not a “celebration” of halloween; its just a day where everyone dresses up and gets candy and just has some fun. its all about what it means to you. there are people out there who make it an evil day, but you can make it just some good fun. if it helps your mindset you can instead celebrate the day that martin luther posted the 95 theses - sparking the protestant reformation. “celebrate” that instead. - written 1 month ago
