Ok Goon, you are on your own. More power to you.
Mr Down Load. You need to get the book “The King James Only Controversy” so that you can step out of your cloud. There are so many good translations that speak today’s english without any compromise of the message.
The best way to study scripture is via several of the translations.
The Holman Christian Standard is the new gold standard in translations. The NIV is good. The New King James only stylizes the grammer from the King James to make it clearer, today’s english.
Your ascertion that people are adding and taking away to suit their needs has only happened in the “New World” translation of the Jehovah’s Witness.
Unless you are going to go back to the 1611 “Authorized King James Version” you are being hipocritical to make your accusations concerning the other translations, because even your King James is a new version written to “suit someone’s needs”.

Hum, what religion is that?
2007-03-24 06:52:31 on Why is immortality in heaven desirable?
:) Goon, your belief system is almost as old as mankind. You shouldn’t use the thousands of years of dogma argument it is falicious.
No matter how modern we are there are really no new ideas concerning religion whether it is a belief in God or a lack of belief in any god.
From my world view I agree 100% with your second comment above. You can start and grow in believing the things YOU want to believe.
I’ve been there, done that!:)
For many years I lived according to my own dictates of my own conscience.
I’ll admitt, I never denied the existence of God.
I’ve always realized there must be a God because reason demands it.
We do not have the creation around us and the intelligence we have simply by random chance.
Belief that all of this came about via darwinian evolution is ignorant.
Had Darwin at his disposal the scientific equipment, ie. microscopes, we have today to see the complexity of the cell and the smallest of organisms he would have realized his folly.
You know thus far I’ve appreciated your candor without being offensive.
Most of the time such discussions resort to personal attacks and that is not really dialog.
If God didn’t “interfere” in the affairs of men and the creation itself then He wouldn’t be the God of Christianity.
I went to Mt St. Hellens after the eruption. As I watched the video they present there, you should go see it if you can it is awesome, I could see how God holds back the powerful forces of nature and when He decides to let it loose there are awesome consequences.
I agree, God doesn’t have the same intelligence as us. The Bible teaches us that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways.
We are finite and He is infinite.
We are His creation and He is our creator. Can the creation ever be greater than it’s creation?
Finally, belief in Jesus is not a flimsy thing.
I’ve prayed that some day you will know my Jesus.
It isn’t until a person comes to genuine faith that the Holy Spirit enters in and reveals the God of creation to the heart and the consciousness that a person can begin to grasp the Holyness of God and the powerful way that a relationship with Jesus Christ changes one’s heart and desires.
I can’t cause you to believe and I wouldn’t want to. That’s not my job.
All I can do is give you some direction as to where to begin to look and hope, as you drive away, that you find the destination.
2007-03-24 06:33:21 on who can teach english to me?
Do you want to learn British English or American English?
There is a difference in the definitions of many words.
Grammer is similar.
What country are you from?
The best way I could help you is for you to write conversations and I can correct your english so that you can see how you are not using it in the proper context.
You do seem to know english and I admire your desire to improve on what you already know.
I live in the USA, in the state of Missouri.
Many of the people here have the same writing problems your post reveals in your use of the language so don’t put yourself down.
You at least know two languages well enough to communicate, that’s impressive!
2007-03-23 07:24:58 on I always want to sleep: I get up at 5am and go to bed at 10-11pm.
Your body is made of cells.
Cells need water in order to function.
Water helps the organs of the body to expell toxins.
If your urine is not close to clear then you are in some state of dehydration.
Most people fail to provide thier bodies with the necessary water to function properly.
Since you say you do not drink much this could very well be your key to success.
Sleep is for the mind and body.
Nourishment and hydration is for the mind and body.
What do you do for your soul?
2007-03-23 06:54:29 on I always want to sleep: I get up at 5am and go to bed at 10-11pm.
Ok, that means you are getting into REM, rapid eye movement, sleep.
That is good. It is REM where you really get the rest your brain needs.
I think exercise is the key for you.
Do some walking or light jogging before you settle down to do your “brain” work.
Get rid of any sugar in your diet and stay away from asparatame completely.
Keep away from caffine. Do not start your day with coffee, or tea, or sugar like fruit juices.
Water may be a real good key to the solution. Drink a gallon of water a day for a while and see what happens.
You can even set yourself up to do your mental work standing up.
To fit exercise into your schedule walk rather than drive and remember even if it is only 5 minutes of brisk exercise that will get the blood flowing.

That thread made me want to puke. Both sides were repugnant!
It is not either or.
Christians are to live this life as a gift from God.
We are to enjoy it to the fullest.
God established His laws, His way of living for that very purpose.
The great thing is to live this life to it’s fullest and then when the “ride” is over go on to bigger and better things!
I believe the only reason to deny God is self pride and arrogance.
The “I don’t want anyone or anything telling me what to do.
2007-03-23 06:36:50 on I always want to sleep: I get up at 5am and go to bed at 10-11pm.
You may have sleep apnea. I needed a CPAP machine. The best question I have for you to help determine if you have the sleep disorder is when was the last time you had a dream while you slept?

missa, you have the perogative to do both live a full and meaningful life and go to heaven. Fear should not be the major motivator
2007-03-22 20:00:23 on Why is immortality in heaven desirable?
No Chimp, we should live this life to it’s fullest but we have to realize that we are but a vapor. Here today and gone tomorrow, at least as far as this temoral life. The question goes back to where one is going to spend eternity.

Amen, when we seek Him He will indeed be found!
What you are sharing is known as Paschal’s wager.(Spelling?)
For visiting, As soon as someone says they have figured out the dates you can write them off as a heretic.
It is this kind of silly talk that keeps someone like atheist from learning about the reality of God.
Jesus said it isn’t for us to know the date. While He was here in the flesh, surrendering His divinity, He said that only the Father knows the time.
2007-03-21 18:41:10 on How does one gather evidence for God?
Actually there are a great many scientists who are Christians. For me I find it hard to believe that an honest scientist or doctor can see the wonder of life, the complex mathematical form of all things in nature and deny that there must be a Creator God.
It takes much more blind faith to deny His existance.
2007-03-21 18:21:13 on How does one gather evidence for God?
Now, your litmis test for buddhism, Islam, etc. would “prove” them false since their “bibles” are written without cooberation from other authors. Sole source information is genuinely most suspect although not necessarily false>
2007-03-21 18:15:20 on How does one gather evidence for God?
Why, when we look at a watch do we believe there is a watch maker somewhere.
Why, when we look at a building do we believe there is an architect.
So, why is it so hard to veiw all of creation and conclude there is a God?
How about witnesses.
You claim the Bible is one book. This is a false assumption.
This should really help clear this up.
It comes from http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-aut…
Humanly speaking, the Bible was written by approximately 40 men over the course of 1500 years.
Isaiah was a prophet, Ezra was a priest, Matthew was a tax-collector, John was a fisherman, Paul was a tentmaker, Moses was a shepherd.
Despite being written by approximately 40 authors over approximately 1500 years, the Bible does not contradict itself and does not contain any errors.
The authors all present different perspectives, but they all proclaim the same one true God, and the same one way of salvation (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).
Few of the books of the Bible specifically name their author. Here are the books of the Bible along with the name of who is most assumed by Biblical scholars to be the author, along with the approximate date of authorship:

Scripture commands us to care for the environment as a gift from God. Personally where I have a problem with environmentalists is when the environment trumps the welfare of people.
Global warming? I side with the scientists who present evidence that we are in a normal cyclic event and that if anything we are slightly trending colder, in tenths of degrees, rather than warming.
As for poluting our environment. I’d say the one could prove through scripture that would be wrong.
Scriputre would decry cruelty to animals but not to the extreme that PETA would take it claiming, as one billboard I’ve seen, that Jesus was a vegetarian.
Bottom line, as Christians everything we have belongs to God and we are to treat it as such. We are only stewards of what He has entrusted to us.
