If not it would probably be a good idea for her to start seeing a therapist and a relationship counselor. She and you would benefit if she took more direct control in raising her children and not through a proxy, you. It would help her own confidence and self worth and relieve you of the pressure on you. Improvements on how she feels about herself and her own confidence will reduce the falling into another unhealthy relatonship. She may even find someone who can respect her properly but she must first respect herself.
It’s interesting that her parents are just next door. She moved out but not far and gave birth to you at 19. Now you are a few years from 19 and that may trigger more repressed feelings in her for the life that could have been. Your life has been determined by the choices made on your behalf more than the choices you have made thus far.
A true relationship is not about “getting laid.” If you buy into that then you may fall into the same trap that your Mother had done. A good relationship stands on communication, honesty and trust. This applies to friendships as well as interacting with other family members.

A good relationship stands on communication, honesty and trust. In this early stage you don’t have to give him all the details but you can choose to share with him that you go out of a bad relationship that involved a lack of loyalty and respect. This previous relationship has shaken you to the core where you want to take getting involved again at your own pace. Your act of sharing may build more trust between the two of you.
What’s important is that you find a relationship where you are treated right and not cheated on. Communicate openly with him. Be honest to him and to yourself. Don’t try to be someone that you THINK he will be attracted to you. Trust that his choices and your choices are for the betterment of the relationship.

Getting a guy to like you sounds like you want to force him to choose you. The best way to get him to like you is if you let him make that choice for himself.
Get to know him better. Let him get to know you. If there is a connection between you then it will develop. If he has a problem help him solve it. If you need help with something ask him for help. Focus on communication, honesty and trust. Talk openly with him about a variety of topics. Be honest with him and be honest with yourself. This means be yourself and do not try to be someone you “think” he will like. Trust will develop by the choices each of you make apart and together.
