Twitch: a sudden movement or vocalisation, usually involuntary, which can cause alarm and distress.

My name is Twitch and I have Tourette’s Syndrome and obviously a golden sense of humour ;) I have a few hundred other things, but alas, I am afraid they are all labels, and I would never use them as an excuse.

I love languages. Like, MASSIVELY! I am doing a degree in them. My ultimate goal is to be a hyperpolyglot fluent in at least 12 languages: English, Italian, Spanish, German, Dutch, French, Russian, Japanish, Mandarin, Rapa Nui, Portuguese and Quechua. Give me 5 years and hopefully I’ll be there…

Ultimately I want to be a human rights lawyer, inspired by a special friend on here. That said, I know very little about law.

I am also fanatical about the piano - my goal there is to perfet Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue…Summer project!

Another hobby is Medicine (I wouldn’t ask…). I don’t want to be a doctor, but I just like learning about it :)

Sometimes I can irritate even the coolest cucumber and sometimes I can drown boat loads of optimists, but hopefully you will find me in a normal mood.

Not that into sport, but if I had to pick, I would say squash :) Don't expect me to be very good at it though :P

What kinds of jobs have you held? Industries too!
I am still a student, but I teach Maths and Piano nearly everyday. After uni, I want to be an international lawyer.

What hobbies are you into?
Writing, Reading, Art (strictly modern...), Medicine (a hobby for me :P), Music (especially piano), Cooking, Experimenting

What causes are you concerned about today?
A lot of things, but especially the attitudes of young people and how people are meant to be so set into gender specific rules (you can tell I don't conform easily :P)

If you claim a political party affliation, which is it?
Erm...I don't actively support any party...not really, anyway...

Which religion (if any) do you follow?
Agnostic!

I have Asperger’s Syndrome - clinically diagnosed. Before, I was just considered autistic, but recently, it has been refined to a diagnosis of HFA Asperger’s Syndrome.

Self diagnosis actually plays a massive role in a lot of people discovering they have a disorder of source, however, I do agree that sometimes, the more you read about something, the more you convince yourself you have it - you can end up giving yourself a bit of Munchausen’s, where you even start to exhibit the symptoms of the disorder.

I will tell you a bit about my autistic traits so you can see if you relate to any of them, however, you really should go to a doctor and get referred to a neurologist, psychiatrist, and a paediatrician if you are under 16.

Firstly, a massive part of Aspie is that we have extremely narrow and intense interests, to the point of being obsessive. It can be very advantageous if you follow a career relating to one of these interests, however, it can be socially isolating because it is all you know how to talk about. My interests change from time to time - recently, I have gone from being obsessed with the London Underground Train system to foreign languages, which I don’t need to tell you, is much more useful.

Another huge feature as you yourself have pointed out it the social side of things. I am 17 and at college, and I only have one person I consider a friend. People often dismiss me as eccentric, because I talk about unconventional topics, and often have exaggerated facial expressions and marked verbosity, where I have no control over the volume or pitch of my voice. I don’t even realise. The facial expressions stems from when I was young, and I got bullied for being expressionless, so I took it a bit too far the other way.

Also, I find certain noises physically painful - the sound of a person sniffing, for example, sends sharp pains running through my head. Ditto the sounds of metal on metal. I also find light touches to my skin extremely painful, especially my face. I find the thought of hugging a person or shaking someone’s hand terrifying, because I worry that I can’t touch the person lightly, because it will hurt, but I obviously don’t want to hurt them…

I exhibit extreme honesty as well. There is no filter on what I think and say, and as you can imagine, it gets me into quite a lot of trouble. People often tell me I am being rude, and I don’t see it because I say it is being honest and honesty is good, because I have always been taught not to lie. I take everything people say very seriously, and consequently, I find sarcasm and certain quotations confusing. I still can’t differentiate between seriousness and sarcasm, however, I am learning every idiom there is.

Definitely speak to your doctor and get referred to the people I suggested above. There are certain things you can do for yourself.

There are discussions on every topic, and it would be good for you to talk to other people who may be in similar situations. http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt112787.html this is a fantastic cartoon guide to AS created by one of the members. I find this sums up the condition as a whole well.

Think carefully about your answers - don’t lie to sway the results.

If you do get diagnosed, there is so much help available. I am on drugs to calm my obsessive tendencies, and I have frequent cognative behavioural therapy. I am learning the rules of socialising, and I have even found out I am able to learn “humour” in a labaratory context.

Bless her - she sounds very lonely, and it would seem that she has latched onto you because you are the first person to be nice to her. Maybe talk to her, see if she’s got any problems - if she opens up and understands she can be friends with someone without being obsessive, maybe she would calm down.
Otherwise, ignore her texts, don’t respond, and if you meet her and she asks you out, you are busy ;)

I think the thing with infatuation is that it is a lot more intense for a very short period of time - often about a week, and if you get into a relationship with the person, it may be hard to still even like them if you were just infatuated - infatuation usually looks over every flaw. Love, on the other hand, accepts the flaws, and usually takes a long time to build up, although it can happen quickly…

Wow! A doctor who is multilingual - I am sure many potential emplyers would clamour to get someone like you, given that you are hardworking and courteous…England would be the place to go with your language skills - it is rare in England for people to be more than monolingual, if even that, so I think that would be the best place to do well. Search on the internet for sites like gumtree for jobs, and try researching companies you might be interested for and emailing them to find work - don’t be afraid to do this :P

I have a question regarding alcohol in lung.

Well if there is anything foreign in your lungs, it tries to expell it otherwise it could cause serious damage. This would explain the coughing - it’s your body’s natural reflex. However, after 2 days, if it’s not getting dangerous, you really need to go to the hospital immediately, otherwise you risk permanently damaging your lungs. I hope you feel better soon :)

I’m really overweight and need to loose about 60 pounds, any advice?

Hmmm…I did a rather extreme thing when I wanted to lose weight fast called the Dukan diet - for 1 week, you eat protein and that is it. You are allowed Chicken, Turkey, Duck and lean pork as well as any other white meat (NOT beef and lamb), as well as natural yoghurt, fromage frais and quark. VERY low fat sauces are allowed (like hoisin), but no carbs, no fruit, and no vegetable (and no alcohol :P) Oh yeah, fish is allowed!
This kick starts the diet. After a week, introduce veg and fruit back in - raw is better.
Exercise is also essential. I HATE EXERCISE, but you’ve just got to find a sport or something you enjoy - for me, I found Kabaddi and did it with loads of friends - very rough, but SO FUN!

Why can’t I tell him how I feel.

Personally, I love the response “cool beans”! But I see what you mean…do you think you are afraid of opening up and letting him know your true feelings and then being rejected? That is what holds people back in all sorts of situations. After 2 years, you are still in love, so you can be sure this is the real thing, not infatuation, and unfortunately I don’t think it will go away unless you tell him.
Be brave m’dear, and tell him how you feel :)
