I’m sorry to hear you feel that way. The situation really got blown WAY out of proportion. The facts of the matter are that Rich made some inappropriate comments and got overly upset when they were moderated out. As much as he wishes to complain about being moderated, this is our site and we have every right to moderate it as we see fit. His account was only temporarily banned because I had to come on and edit a shout the other admins could not deal with except by wholesale banning the account.
If you would like to leave the site, you are more than welcome to. I can even go the extra step of disabling your current account so that it will slip into history. However, I will not wipe or ban your account because doing so would remove all the past advice you’ve shared and I can’t agree to that.
It isn’t a sudden desire, but yesterdays incidents about rich hills and the antics of the group responsable helps me make up my mind that I dont want to be part of this site any more?
As a general practice, no accounts ever get wiped unless they are in very clear violation of the rules and the loss of the account (posts, replies, etc) would not be detrimental to the site.
We have both given our views as we see them. There dosn’t seem to be a middle path or compromise that we can take. Nothing about the website upsets me, except the anonymous reply to the post Why has Help.com become a different place?
That users feel that they are being intimidated, because the older generation dont accept them. Perhaps you can do something about this? I dont know what that could be though.
It’s the “new” shout since you last saw the page. It’ll show on all the new shouts. I get something like 40 shouts over the weekend sometimes and it’s hard to remember which are new and which aren’t. It helps me, so I figure other people might like it too ;D
Nothing has changed on my computer. nor has internet explorer 6.0 changed. its at the same settings that it has always been. Do you think if I sign of then back on again this might help?
When I click on the profile beside a friends name nothing happens. up untill now the profile has always come up, it is the same with all the profile buttons.
The lock icon only shows on invite pages. What it means is that the person only accepts invites from people they have marked as a friend. Since they haven’t accepted you as a friend, you may not invite them to things.
Can you tell me why my friends page wont work?
Also why I havea lock by the side of one of the friends names. I cant give you the number the page does not work.
Thepp, if you are down for it you could try running a different browser. Firefox is a really nice alternative to IE and has some nice features over IE.
However, if you’re not OK with switching browsers (totally cool) then you’ll have to play with your caching options to get this to stop happening. Namely, you need to reduce or disable caching of Help.com pages.
Thepp, that sounds like a caching issue. If your browse is caching the home page (as it seems to be doing) it’s trying to “catch up” to the state the page used to be in.
What browser are you in? Version? I’ve never seen this happen in either IE or Firefox.
Can you give me some advice. I have to keep on refreshing each page continuously all of the time to get the website to work. Every time I go to the home page from any other page I have to wait until the latest posts scroll down the page one at a time. It is becoming very annoying. Can anything be done to correat this issue?
It has to do with how much of the message is uppercase. I have an algorithm that tries to detect “shouting” and get rid of it by percentage of upper case letters in a reply.
Just put another sentence or two in the reply with lower casing to get that to go away. Sorry about a messed up reply. :/
Hi there chuy.
I needed to give an answer to a post with Upper case letters but it was changed to lower case. I have given this same advice befor and and it has never been changed to lower case. What is the problem?
You must be registered and validated to leave shouts to other users.
