What causes are you concerned about today?
Causes that I'm concerned about? #1 -- Drug addiction in the U.S. . . . So many of today's youth are becoming addicted to opiates, like OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, and heroin. Unlike when I was in school (class of '86), when there was pot, acid, and cocaine flowing through our schools, today's students have these highly PHYSICALLY addictive drugs (opiates) being pushed upon them. The difference between being addicted to cocaine and being addicted to opiates like OxyContin, is that without the opiate, the body becomes extremely sick. Cocaine makes a person addicted in the user's mind, meaning they THINK they can't function without it. But opiates ACTUALLY do the job of disabling it's user. A cocaine addict will go through one or two days of depression without the drug until they realize they are actually fine. But an opiate addict will go through 2 to 4 WEEKS of physical torture, will be incapacitated to the extreme. They are bed-ridden and sick beyond your wildest dreams. This is a horrible, horrible thing for a child in their teens to go through. The expected sickness will drive that child to do unthinkable acts to make sure they get that drug, so they can function and go to school, as well as maintain a healthy appearance to their family who doesn't know they are addicted to opiates. Opiates are runing today's youth. This addiction sets the user on a lifetime course of having to obtain the drug. They can't fathom having to go through that sickness even one more time, even if to detoxify to get off permanently. That sickness they fear keeps them going until all is lost -- dropping out of school, kicked out of the house, arrested and convicted and loss of freedom through incarceration. This is my main concern in life, that our country can't do enough to keep these drugs out of our country, and can't do enough to keep these prescribed drugs out of the hands of kids.
