Hi shol’vah - thank you for your reply. I live in the UK and (thankfully) we are now very aware of how time matters when it comes to the treatment of some conditions. Heart disease is a major killer here & we now have cardiac response teams in all ERs. They are actually led by senior nursing staff who have vast experience in corornary care and know more about symptoms, drugs, treatment etc than some junior doctors and at times general doctors. Many lives have been saved here by their quick intervention. I think specialised emergency teams such as these should be in every hospital. Best wishes.

Hi there
There is no legal requirement to wear a medicalert bracelet in the UK but, for obvious reasons, if you are a) taking regular medicine for a specific medical condition e.g. Asthma, HIV, Hepatitis, Diabetes, Cushings Disease or b) receiving ongoing treatment for a specific medical condition e.g. Cancer, Kidney Disease, High Blood Pressure, Heart Problems or c) are severely allergic to either some medicines or e.g. insect stings, nuts, or d) have a rare blood type or medical condition e.g. haemophillia or e) regularly take prescribed painkillers to treat chronic pain e.g. buprenorphine, oxycontin, meptid etc then it would be wise to wear a medicalert bracelet in case of accident. People who come into any categories shown above (although mostly the elderly) may also avail of a free service in the UK. A sticker of a green cross is placed inside your front door in an obvious place and details of all medications are kept in a sealed container stored within your fridge. If you collapse, are unconscious and the ambulance service have to force entry to your home upon seeing the green cross the crew will know immediately to go to look for the sealed container in your fridge. i think this is both a simple and invaluable system which saves lives. I hope this helps.
2007-06-04 13:52:29 on i have a 3 year old golden retriever and she just recently started to do something quite interesting…..
has she been spayed (neutered)? sounds a bit like a phantom pregnancy to me - gals and their hormones! she’s unlikely to do it if she is actually pregnant but she may be due to come into season - just be careful around her as she may be very protective over her newfound ‘pups’!. it should pass but if not or she seems in distress then take her to the vet. good luck.
2007-06-03 13:51:02 on What is turf brown?
i have found out that it is a type of algae. turf is a name for a piece of earth taken from the ground. peat turf is farmed in ireland, dried and then used as fuel which when burned on an open fire gives off a gorgeous scent and is a tremendous source of heat. ahhh - you’ve made me think of winter - thank you after a rainy summer day in ireland.
2007-05-13 15:14:59 on My query is on life in general.
if we only get to live for ‘three score and ten’ then as you approach 20 you have only ‘two score and ten’ left so ….. time to get sorted then! your body is the machine to deliver the physical aspects of what your mind wants - if the body is sick then the mind will be hindered and frustrated - if the mind is sick then the body will follow. you need time and space to heal both and realise your true potential, which if you want it to be, can be all you ever dreamed of achieving. the downside is that you have to work for it and it’s not easy. the easier choice for you, it seems, would be to stay with the ‘friends’ and hide your dreams behind drink and drugs. go to uni - you have worked hard already to achieve that and through that experience you may get opportunity to travel. otherwise, take life by the neck and live it - go travel - experience climates, cultures, foods, sights, sounds and smells - but do it carefully and safely. why don’t you try volunteering (VSO would be a good place to start) or teaching at a summer camp. you’ll do what’s right in the end but don’t waste life - it really is too precious and rumour has it that we only get one - a rumour i do not believe as i’ve had too much fun this far - i’m coming back!! if you want any more advice then send me a message - if not, enjoy and have a ball! good luck.
2007-05-08 15:00:44 on I told my friend about help.com and how if you ask a question all the good people in the world will start helping you find the answer.
i wonder is he referring to northern lights, a book by phillip pulman. in there is reference to both fluff and dust and if you read the trilogy you may find the answer!
good luck & kind wishes.

i remember very well an immensely strong feeling i had when i was pregnant with my daughter and i hated the world i was bringing a baby into. however, whereas before i always wanted to change the whole world i realised that i couldn’t but what i could do was change the world that i had the power and influence to do - my world and it’s surroundings - or at least try. i now do all the environmentally friendly stuff i can, volunteer for charities whenever time allows, do not tolerate cruelty, rudeness or bullying in any shape or form and beyond all other things value nature, relationships, friendships and love in whatever form they may take from day to day. maybe try to focus on the little things and they may lead to bigger change, either through you, your inspiration or who knows. every day is an adventure - have fun!
2007-03-24 17:32:05 on Hello, I was wondering if I could gather some peoples opinions on religion.
hey nick
i believe that there is too much religion and not enough christianity in the world. i believe in the power of nature and in good and bad, right and wrong. i feel the bible is an ambiguous book which can be used to justify any means and that jesus was a good man who did good work while alive and was persecuted for his beliefs which were against the views of the government at that time - i do not believe in the resurrection as told in the bible. i do however, believe in reincarnation in whatever form it may take and the fact that perhaps everlasting life is not that we go on forever but that we live on through memories, deeds and our genetic form passed on to our children.
good wishes and blessings in whatever form they take!
2007-03-21 15:18:46 on does anyone know a good book i should read for my independant
i only know jnr high is aged btw 5-12 & guessing you are at the upper range i would recommend stig of the dump, the lord of the flies, any of the first harry potter books (they get longer as they go on but they are fantastic!) and charlotte’s web.
good luck with the assignment and hopefully you will enjoy the stories and not think about the number of pages in the book!!
2007-03-18 07:49:39 on Hi Guys,
hi arthur2
sorry to hear about your condition and hope the following may be of use.
www.ukfibromyalgia.com
www.arc.org.uk
fibromyalgia-associationuk.org
i also learned of a website (www.microntra.com/activive) which provide an alternative therapy in the form of vitamins but please be wary as there are a lot of ‘miracle cures’ around.
i suffered from CFS over 10 years ago and eventually found a very reputable alternative practitioner who treated me in a number of ways, including acupuncture, vitamin supplements, cognitive behaviour therapy and kinesiology. i can honestly say that i have no idea how it worked but am happy to report that it did and i have not suffered a relapse. his name is ralph mccutcheon based in holywood, co down, northern ireland and i’m sure if you contact him he may be able to recommend someone in your area.
good luck
2007-03-17 15:09:58 on basically im intensly bored!
a good saying i know is by god knows whom but it is along the lines of that if a person is bored then they are being boring! would you like to spend time with you as a friend? your thought that you are not acaedemic cannot be true as you study and hope to attend university, although you did not specify what you hoped to study and to where you think successful completion may lead. you are 17 years old and i am 37 so all i can offer is experience. i felt tied by a b/f at your age and did not go to university at that time. whereas my life (minus that b/f!) has taken a great path over the past 20 years and i always continued to study at open university, i always regret not having experienced the ‘uni life’. do not allow your b/f to take up so much of your time; time that is precious and can never be recovered. if you want to get a job, get a job that suits around your studies and you automatically meet new people and gain a different view on life. you could also volunteer and do work for a charity that interests you or begin a class on something totally unrelated to your studies but that has always interested you. your opportunities are endless - have a good think, test the water & dive in - you have nothing to lose!! good luck.
2007-03-12 15:32:55 on my best friend just lost her mother yesterday……(she
hi
i’m really sorry to hear about your friend’s loss but grateful that she has such a good friend in you. music, especially for a funeral, is entirely personal, so i will not recommend but offer support in that whatever your friend wants will be fine. if you want to do something else, i know of a poem which gave me comfort when my father died. it was written by mary elizabeth frye in 1932
do not stand at my grave and weep
i am not there i do not sleep
i am the thousand winds that blow
i am the diamond glints on snow
i am the sun on ripened grain
i am the gentle autumn rain
and when you awake in the morning hush
i am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circle flight
i am the soft starlight at night
do not stand at my grave and cry
i am not there, i did not die.
over 3 years later i still have a particular star i ‘talk’ to and think of my dad.
just be a good friend
