  In IE-7 click on tools and select Windows update. In the control panel you can also enable automatic updates. I have limited experience with vista — so good luck. If you need more help, try user forums at microsoft.com. It is free, however you need to be way more detialed about your system and problems.

  Contact AOL tech support– you can do that on-line via “instant chat” (typing). You address book and buddy list are supposed to be stored on-line (by AOL)You are probably out of luck for your favorites. They should be able to tell you the file name for your favorites and you might find it on your hard drive and be able to restore it.
  
  I have not used AOL for several years, but the on-line support is your best bet.

• When reinstalling windows 2000, does microsoft office (word, power point, excel etc..) stay in the computer after the new windows is been installed?
  

  ronrumpf is giving you good advice. I was able to get my new XP disk from Dell by using their free e-mail/instant chat support. I was told that my original disk would not work with my new larger hard drive. They are very cheap these days, under $50 for 200 gigs. If you can get the XP disk, you might have to get into the bios and reset the boot order — so you can boot from your CD drive and do a clean install. My new hard drive made my system much faster. WIN2000 is a pretty good operating system — plan C might be to get a new hard drive and put it on that one with a NTFS file system. As ronrumpf said from there you can probably clean out the virus on you other drive and might be able to still use your office program.

  I am new to Vista, we have had a Gateway laptop for only 2 months and have had no issues with Vista. I would suggest that you call HP support. You should still be under their guarantee. I am assuming that the first thing that you did when you started your new PC was to update the virus protection and windows. If I am not correct– do that if you can still get online. You do need a good anti-virus and firewall package.
