Hrmā¦ a controversal and contradictional statement!
It is not the least humble, because it implies that you are the holder of the only TRUTH, and that is simply based upon the facts that you did not see, and that you do not understand things.
I think I am more humble. because as is the case with Particle Physics, I do not rule out things only because I do not understand them. Especially if I am not able to provide proofs against them!
One replier in your post said something clever when comparing the Nature to God, but he made one mistake in assuming that scientists are not religious.
As a matter of fact, there is not a single Nobel Prize winner in Physics, who did not become religious if he wasnāt religious already before! I do not say that they all became believers in the Bible, but they all came to the conclusion that this entire Universe cannot have happened by random, and that there must be an intention behind it. Those are not atheistic thoughts!
When it comes to intelligence, I am aware of that I still play the backyard hockey while those heavy Nobel Prize guys play the National Hockey League!
So if I was not a believer, the most intelligent approach I could have is to at least remain a bit humble about things I donāt understand!”

Yes Richie, I really agree! My wife once came hom from work, telling that a colleque had asked for everybodyās attention during a coffee break, rising and saying: āthere is one thing Iāll have to tell about myselfā¦
ā¦silenceā¦ and then: āI am a gay person. I like other men. I think you have the right to know this about meā¦ā and blabla about himselfā¦
So everybody were cheering him, telling just HOW brave he was, and so on.

During the coffee break at work, I would ask for attention, rise and say:
āDear friends. We have known eachother now for so-and-so long. We live our lives partly at work, but we also have a life beside work. I have a life beside this work, a private life.
For a very long time I have been thinking about telling you all something very private about myself, but I have hesitated to do it because I did not know how you are going to take the news.
But I think you have the right to know it, so I have decided to tell you about it today:
I am a STRAIGHT person! I am a man, and I like women! This started when I was very young, continuing through all my years. I have even lived together with women!
This is just how I am, and I can not help it!

The point is, I donāt give a sh** what orientation my collegues are into! I donāt make passes on collegues - I work. If a male collegue makes a pass on me, Iāll turn him down. If a very nice female collegue makes a pass on me, maybe Iād go out with her EVEN if she was gay. But I doubt she would make a pass if she wereā¦

Dear girl, life sometimes sucks. While the most important moment of it is getting into it, the second most important moment is leaving it. We seldom know when it is going to happen, but we know it will.
Very few get the opportunity to have all the dearest around when it happens. Sometimes it is not even desireable, that is so difficult to tell or judge. But the most important is that we know that we are loved and will not be forgotten. I guess that your father knew that you love him, wherever you were when he passed away.
Even if you feel negligent, I don’t think your father looked at it that way. Teenagers tell parents off, that is part of the game and parents know it. My sons often told me off or told me that parents suck. But that is true, parents sometimes suck and that is also part of the game. But I know that my sons love me very much, and I try to let them know that I know.
When it comes to the funeral, it does not have to be a miserable event. My mother was the most amazing and loved person you can imagine, but her funeral became a happy event with a lot of laughters. Of course not during the ceremonies, but during the gathering afterwards. It became an opportunity to meet all relatives and family friends we did not often see, just as she would have wanted it. And we shared a lot of happy memories from her life. I don’t feel at all guilty because of that.
Your father had his illness, and he had his shortcomings as we all have. But I am sure that he had hundreds of good sides too, and that there are a lot of happy memories to bring up if you think.
Try to concentrate on the positive things and forget about negative. That is what serves him best, and what he would like if he could see you now!
I of course miss my mother, but she would be old if she had still lived, and probably not felt so well. So I am glad with how things are, and I am glad for the positive stuff that I remember.

Then an interesting thought, when you have “wasted your compassion in vain” to a liar.
How do you know if it was in vain?
OK, you are hurt because the conditions were not what you believed. But you were showing interest and affection, and compassion. But it may have helpt to a point, by reasons and in conditions we don’t even understand.
Small kids often have an “imaginary friend”, somebody who is not real but who can feel very real to the kid. It is not seen as unhealthy, if it is not taken too far. It usually stops after a year or two.
But I know a teenager who had sort of a parallel world beside the real one. She had two or more separate groups of aquaintances, not knowing eachother. She was talking about her “other friends” a lot, and nobody could tell what was true and what as not true. Except me. I can’t say why, but when she told me the same stories, she did it in a way that I could tell what was lies, and she knew that I knew it and she expected me to know it. Her other (teenager) friends were very irritated by it and tried to nail her lies all the time, but I was never disturbed by them. Because they were not harmful to anybody else, and they served as an outlet for a condition of which I am not certain. I knew she has ADHD, and I was certain of that worse problems would arise if that outlet was blocked for her. The kid is an angel in other aspects and could die for her friends. But she was vulnerable and easily got in trouble, so I concentrated my efforts on being a support for her and on being at the right spot at the right time. I don’t know how much I have contributed to it, but she has completely stopped lying and is behaving just perfect now. But I know that I at least have kept her safe from physical harm and from getting in trouble, so I feel the reward of having been very important to somebody who I love.
I think this can be something of the alike, only a bit more severe. By a background I don’t know and by other reasons I don’t know of and may not understand, there is apparantly a need for raising affection and compassion from strangers about invented fantacy situations. I don’t think it is healthy to herself, and it causes emotional damages to others.
Just as MamaBear, I would like to find out more about it. I don’t think I can solve her problems, but I may be able to convince her to have talks with somebody who may help her!
