And to your question (I signed the petition).
Yes, we do tests on animals in Sweden also, as they do everywhere in the world.
But here has been a lot of debates about it, as long as I can remember. So most of it has stopped, and they are doing only “the most neccesary tests” on animals. Which of course does not mean that you or I would find most of them neccesary.

The French car producer Renault made some other horrible tests, many years ago. They wanted to make collision tests and thought that humans are better than dolls. So they purchased the corpses of dead children from poor parents, and used the corpses in collision tests. The Renault executives first denied any knowledge about it when it was discovered, but evenually they admitted that it was approved all up through the company hierarchy.

OK, you may not endanger the life of an already dead, but I think it is ethically disgusting to molest dead children for economical reasons, EVEN if traffic safety benefits from it.
By that reason you will never see me buying a Renault, it being a safe car or not.

But there are good things too. I saw on TV that they will soon be able to “print” transplantable organs, i.e. build them up cell by cell, to an identical copy of a body organ. They will be able to do that if they have the genetical code of a person.
This was mentioned only in connection with transpantations.

But I can see extremely good spin-off effects from that research. Many animal tests may be avoided if they can simply manufacture body parts or organs to make the tests on, instead of hurting animals.
Not to mention if they could make it into a commercially large-scale operation and manufacture the filet steaks instead of butching them from cows.
(hehe… I wonder if that would be so popular in Texas…)

Anyway, I came home late from my business trip so I may be too late. If you find info on Swedish practice, you’ll see that birth control IS available in Swedish schools, and that it has kept abortion rates low. But I have not seen the actual figures.

Kids have sex, with or without contraceptives. That behavior is decided by other parameters.
We can turn our backs to it and close our eyes, and face the consequences.
Or we can take measures. Changing the behavior is not easy, requiring national campaigns in a large scale and may get so-so marginal results, but on long terms only.
On short terms, we can help the kids to at least not become parents too early, and to not get diseases.

that makeing birth controle avalibe in schools would make abortion rates go down..

Hehe, not for myself. For a client, who IS rich.
And it is cheap, because a new one costs about 5.5M and then it is still at the factory. After shipping and erection, it is much money.
If this deal is successful, the client will have saved almost 3M when it is in operation.

Sorry Joy, it is not a joke.
It is a sad story, and I am not venting it in a (hopefully) safe way.
You know, many of our known stories are actually carrying a message between the lines.
Like Robinson Crusoe, which was actually written by a butcher who used to write stuff critical to the government. Therefore he had to disguise his messages inside “innocent” stories, so he would not get punished.
