Foodies: young onions - what are they? posted (2 years) ago
So I’m writing a short essay about a poem that includes the phrase “young onions”…
To reply in earnest:
You imply that the only meaning of a word is it’s denotation.
denotation |ˌdēnōˈtā sh ən|
noun
the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests : beyond their immediate denotation, the words have a connotative power.
I wanted to know if people have a personal, cultural, or specific definition of the phrase “young onions” - aka, it’s connotative meaning.
connotation |ˌkänəˈtā sh ən|
noun
something that a word invokes person in addition to its literal or primary meaning : the word “discipline” has unhappy connotations of punishment and repression.
I do hope these definitions help you to stop being a jerk. 3

It’s nice, but it’s just flowery prose (which means it’s just sentences). It uses a lot of cliche ways to come about your point - that you love her and she’s beautiful and awesome.
Think about it this way. Poetry is about breaking up normal images creatively. It’s about expressing ideas in a way that is interesting and innovative - and you can’t make good poetry by waxing about the world being bright or her eyes shining with energy or only wanting to see her for just a brief moment if that’s all you’re allowed (seriously man, everyone has said this) or whatever. It’s all been said before, done before.
Poetry is also about carefully choosing words. Make sure the words you use count and are meaningful. Look at what you’ve written and remove unnecessary noise until each and every word has purpose, both toward your meaning and toward artistry.
I hope this helps you to write a good poem, from a scholar and amateur.
you’re married, so im guessing you kind of know her menstrual cycle?? Im being serious, I always try my best to know when my girl’s on her cycle, because it saves a lot of confusion for me (even though i never let on that i know). Even if she’s not, apologize again in the morning and see what happens, and just give her space and let her know you’re sorry. Best of luck, i know things’ll turn out great :)
She’s not at that stage in her cycle. Believe me, I know. ;) Besides that, she takes birth control pills, and it’s very easy to track those bad days.
I know it’ll all blow over. I just feel rather taken advantage of. Pah, I guess I am taken advantage of in a lot of ways. But I know I can’t speak only for myself when I say that if I’ve given someone something, I certainly don’t expect to get berated in return. I may not expect anything at all, out of the goodness of my heart, but being punished is entirely different.

It wasn’t much out of the ordinary - just a really nice weekend. We went out to eat a few times, and besides the concert (usually something we can’t do because of money constraints) it was just a very nice weekend, cushioned just how she would like it. I suppose it might have been the concert itself, but she looked happy and relaxed while we were there (it was a symphony). I think I will go take a walk. Thank you.

He shouldn’t be going in hard when you’re a newly not-virgin. Ask him to use lube on the condom if you’re not getting, er, wet enough.

Then the kid should take better notes. Don’t take it out on me, since you didn’t specify who took the notes. I’m helping you, after all.

There is no “31st compromise”. I have no idea what you’re talking about, so I assume that they are different. If you mean the “3/5ths compromise”, that was the compromise that states came to that allowed the great compromise to take place and the constitution to be written. Take better notes!
