  I remember the first time I held a gun, a voice from my heart went ringing in my head, “This is a weapon. It could kill my enemies, it could kill my friends.” Though I believe getting arms is not the answer, I understand your worries. The VA Tech incident is so darn horrible and heartbreaking. Get a gun if that makes you feel safer, just handle it with care and keep in mind “the bullets are blind”.
  
  P.S. But I agree with cgouveia that it is actually more dangerous walking around with a gun than without.

  Of course there are some things you can do. You can find a job to help with the finances. You can plan a payment schedule and then try negotiating with the bank. More often than not, the bank would be willing to give you some more time and not take your house away if you can offer a decent plan.

  Well I think my boss’ message is very simple: he cares about our health and doesn’t want anybody sick. It’s not like we face our customers directly, because we are not sales reps or service reps. I don’t think I will talk to my coworkers about this because our boss has done the job. The decision is theirs though.

  Thanks to all who replied.
  
  Well, my boss put a box of surgical masks in the tea room availble to everyone in the office, and got the message clear that he’d rather look wierd than pass the cold to others. Though he claimed he would fire whoever deliberately comes to work sick, he can’t do that of course. I’m just disgusted (and disappointed) that my co-workers know a little action would do great good to others and won’t do it. Certainly they are not obliged to be considerate, but then others don’t have to be nice to them, either. I think if one simple action can do good, then we should do it. It’s going to be win-win.

  Better to own. Sometimes rent isn’t any cheaper than the monthly payment, and think of this: you pay your mortgage and the house is yours; pay your rent and the house still belongs to your landlord.

  Even if you live somewhere else, you could still benefit from their website. They have useful resources and information, include safety planning. I know it is difficult, but a lot many women have left their abusive partners, without a penny in their pockets, and started over with their lives. Just tell yourself you can do it, you will be one of those women, and run!
