• why so many anonymous postings anymore at one time
  

  I think that those who are computer saavy may understand that a bb site is a spot that a user can accumulate information on a participant and that the totality of information might allow someone to be identified when they would prefer to be anonymous as a helper. Some answers have a good deal of private information inside of the helping message. Maybe some personal information is useful for making a helping connection, but is not easily shared. I have posted with id and anonymously. The ability to do so makes me more comfortable here.

• My dog was put down today.
  

  You are really in my thoughts. I have lived long enough to have had this experience 3 times. Every one was a rough ride. The last time, someone made a suggestion. My kids and I put together a memory box. It had favorite pictures, my dog’s collar, a chewstick (?) and the remaining insulin. When we needed to connect, we would hold the box and think back on happy times and tearfully tell stories. Then we would put the box away nearby. In some small way it was as though our thoughts and our dear dog’s spirit was nearby. The act of putting the box away and of having these moments helped us to focus our grief in a more manageable way. A few years later a dear friend of mine passed away and we did the same type of thing. It, again, helped a great deal. We put up a happy picture of my dog running in the woods in the living room. We made an effort to remember the warmth and fun, and not the final moments… Good luck to you and know that you loved your friend well and he knew it every day.

  When I’m frustrated I just announce that it is time to agree that we disagree…
  Like ÅKSLOGISTIC® I often had to explain myself to acquaintances too often and then they would still say, “Why do you say that?” After I made friends with people that actually understood what I was talking about, it was easier. I still do not pitch a tent to get my point across. Don’t waste time anymore on those who live to argue. But a good intellectual fencing match is always welcome if the person uses good debating techniques and not brow bashing. All in all, I have come to discover there is a time and place, and a manner as well.
  
  Sometimes I just tell a story to get my point across… It can be disarming to someone that rigidly holds a concept dear and cannot think past their elemental boundaries.

  I have had German Shepherds and they have been wonderful with my kids. Very patient. Always had females and they were not older and cranky. Also had a pointer mix when my youngest was a toddler. Very, very patient. Of course you need to teach children to treat dogs with some care…

  I can see the danger of antilocution. If one pretends to respect others and then truly doesn’t, that can be a dangerous commodity. What is really interesting about what you said is that if you say things to someone’s face, would you be hostile or matter of fact? I suppose you could be entirely calm and really make someone feel very badly. Part of me thinks of the ‘telling someone how they REALLY look… Often dangerous, methinks. But if you were in a balanced forum and people knew that there would be ‘difficult’ conversation — my wish is that there could be growth on both sides.
  
  Without really knowing what you might say, all I could do was imagine.
