2008-10-09 10:12:06 on My mother is about to have brain surgery.
Wow. That is fabulous news, Max. My great aunt suffered the same thing many years ago and, sadly, did not fare so well in her procedure. It left her, more or less, in a cognitively disabled state, for which she needed constant care throughout the remainder of her life. She no longer recognized any of her children or relatives and was unable to communicate most things with us.
Now I don’t want to scare you, Max, as I know this has been stressful, but I mention my experience for two reasons. First, because your Mother’s surgery has already been a success and she is, fortunately, on the road to recovery. Second, because at your Mom’s age, the complications of a stroke during the procedure can often outweigh the potential benefits of a recovery. My aunt, undoubtedly, would have been better off had we simply allowed her to pass away rather than attempt to “restore” her to life. I visited her many times in the care facility and the sadness in her eyes was enough to tell me that her existence was a pained one. Of course, these decisions are always clearer in hindsight, and so I mention them so that you might better prepare yourself for the choices that you and your family may one day have to make.
This, however, is a chance to spend yet more time with your mother and, perhaps, appreciate it in a way unlike any you had experienced before. I am glad you moved home, Max. I am very glad indeed.
2008-10-08 17:17:44 on Who’s watching the VP debate, I am, who thinks Palin is bombing so far?
Oh, golly dontchaknow.
2008-10-07 16:14:42 on well, i’m 13 and i like this 19 year old.
Oh please. He knows you’re 13. Every 19 year old can tell the difference no matter how old you might think you look. So he is a bad, bad guy Anon. I like what Bogden said - if he’s right for you now, he’ll still be right for you when you are 19, so maybe give that a try. For now, however, stay clear of anything having to do with a relationship with this guy. It’s not OK and he knows it.
2008-10-01 01:52:16 on Can 2 guy push civic(mt) 10 ft backward on smooth asphalt?
Yes. Put it in neutral and steer backwards. On a level plane, one guy can push it.
2008-09-30 19:30:18 on Are Brits generally supposed to sing-a-long to God Save The Queen’?
I’ve been out front of Buckingham Palace. The Queen is surrounded by 10 foot high fences, topped with barbed wire and patrolled by guards with machine guns. That is one pretty safe Queen. Were that the rest of Britain could be so well protected.
2008-09-30 18:45:46 on I need help with my sex life.
Orgasmic function in females doesn’t always come “online” until your early 20’s, so you might just be totally normal. Your body might not be ready for it now, but as you get older and produce more testosterone (the hormone responsible for sex drive, that might change a bit.
As for you and your boyfriend, here’s the page right outta Dr. Drew’s orgasm faking advice. You don’t tell your boyfriend, but *suddenly* the orgasms magically stop. But how could this be? You’re a girl. That happens sometimes - he doesn’t need to know why, just what he should to to fix it. THEN, you can suggest that perhaps a new approach is needed to get everything working again. That gives you a prime opportunity to show him what you like/don’t like and let things progress from there. Seeing as how he’s your first sexual partner, you’re going to have to coach him a lot. He doesn’t know how girls work and most boys think that a vagina is simply an inside out penis. Not so, so give him pointers and help him learn how to be a more diligent partner.

Dark room, quiet, obviously. Have you tried something like Imitrex?
2008-09-27 10:59:11 on Thrilled with McCain’s VP Choice of Gov.

I always thought you were a big fan of Satan…roflI’m not going to try to convince you to vote for McCain though I disagree with you about him and Palin, but I really wish you’d take a closer look at Obama.
lol me neither, but i’ve made my decision and it totally stands if mccain wins he will send gays to a island, and ban abortion, and eat the fetuses
If he bans abortion, there won’t be any fetuses.
It is simply not true that McCain is anything like Bush, no matter how hard the other side tries to link them. They do have similar tax plans, but the problem in our country right now isn’t the tax code, it’s the bloated spending, that McCain wants to stop. Obama’s economic plan calls for more spending and creating MORE government, it’s a fantasy plan because he doesn’t allow for anyway to pay for these proposed Government programs, since he claims that he is going to reduce taxes and that he is going to tax big business and the wealthy more. That would cripple our economy even more. Common sense will tell you if you tax business’ more they will raise prices and that will hurt lower income families.
Republicans touting of less government is simply just a rouse to eliminate programs than can then be outsourced to private companies. This has been their stance for the majority of the 20th century, no matter how outmoded. As I wrote on another post, it is simply a matter of time before everyone goes running for the democratic playbook and engineers a government bailout. It happened with social security, the creation of the FDIC, medicare, and this week’s 700 billion loan. These are all “socialist” programs, which Republicans - like John McCain and Sarah Palin - touted as wasteful and unnecessary when the economy was surging. Moreover, the economic policies of both George W. Bush and Senator McCain have ushered in an era where budget deficits are seemingly a good thing. If we hadn’t cut taxes in the first place, we wouldn’t need to engineer enormous loans, which we must then back pay and force us into debt even further. The policies put in place during the last 8 years have been disastrous and highly irresponsible and, during a week like this one, I find it difficult to argue any other point.

Ok. 72 hours. There ya go.
2008-09-27 10:48:26 on umm how on earth does Obama think he’s going to be able to do the things he says he’ll do?
i doubt obama can acheive any of the things he said he would, McCain seems much more able to commit to the things he talks about, even though a mild winter may see the end of him…
That’s because he talks about things that don’t need any real action, like preserving the status quo. It’s easy to commit to something when you don’t actually have to change anything real.
2008-09-27 10:46:09 on Say I went out and got my marrige liscense today.
Well then don’t ask questions and state *portions* of stories. If you want help, don’t pretend to be hiding something.
2008-09-27 10:44:32 on Say I went out and got my marrige liscense today.
BTW, your cousin getting married just to placate your Aunt’s sleeping arrangements is a terrible, awful idea. It is going to end in calamity and your Aunt is going to regret causing this if they can’t find an adult way of sorting things out.
And, as I said, it probably DEPENDS ON THE STATE that issues the license, since marriage laws are individually governed by state. I don’t see why you are asking this if it’s your cousin who’s getting married. If she’s old enough to apply for the license, she’s old enough to figure out the rules for herself.
2008-09-27 10:41:08 on Say I went out and got my marrige liscense today.
It prolly depends on the state that issues the license. I don’t see why not, but you’ll have to check with the local judge’s office to be sure.
2008-09-27 10:39:19 on Say I went out and got my marrige liscense today.
What is your question, exactly?
2008-09-26 23:48:10 on umm how on earth does Obama think he’s going to be able to do the things he says he’ll do?
I agreed with you until i read your post entirely. Taxes are going to go up regardless who win the election but they will rise a little more with obama. So what you said might not change many ppls opinion about him. This economy is in crisis. Bush just spent $700 billion. I wonder where he got that money from… We are borderline depression and everyone is trying to avoid this crash by spending more money which is why we are in the mess we are in right now. But lets just keep our figures crossed and pray that we receive a miracle
It’s amazing to me that anyone can hide behind the specter of economic conservatism and still hold their heads up. Oh, when the economy is bouncy, democrats are evil socialists who just want to spend your money on ballooning government programs. Private industry is where we should invest - THEY are the ones that can be trusted with your money. But, inevitably, whenever there’s a crisis, everyone on both sides of Congress goes racing for the democratic playbook and engineers a government bailout. President Bush, for example, campaigned on a platform of small government and laissez-faire economics - while the economy was surging, that is. On the eve of a financial collapse, however, he borrows 700 billion dollars so that the GOVERNMENT - and not private industry - can purchase defaulted loans. Where are these vaunted businesses that are supposed to be the stalwarts of our economy? Re-packing their golden parachutes, most likely. Hopefully, we’ll do well enough in this election cycle to end this nonsense and develop an EFFECTIVE fiscal policy.
