  … No. I went through the same thing…. Turned out the kid wasn’t mine, so in the end it didn’t matter… But, having a child will get you to over think about every situation and also make you completely depressed. i.e thoughts that are “never positive about life.” There are a few things you need to think about and let those be your drive. Do you love your partner? (You never expressed whether you’re a guy or a girl. I’m assuming you’re a guy based on the usage of the word ’stoked’) and, can you spend the rest of your life with your partner?…. My answer to both was no…. So I got a lucky break….

  If you’re this nervous, it’s either too soon in the relationship for this, or something is wrong…. Or you just have stage fright…. Try a drink or two before on stage. =)

  Tell her the truth. Be “sensitive.” Tell her that you’ve wanted to say hi or something at least but were nervous. Or, ‘intimidated’ by her. Girls love that word. It gives them a challenge while letting them know that you think they are that much more breath taking. After that. She’s basically yours. She’ll say, “Awh, why would you be intimidated?”
  
  Feed that.
  
  Feed her more and more compliments… Ex. “C’mon, a hot girl like you would never talk to me…”
  
  THAT. Will let you know what you need to. She’ll either say something on the lines of complimenting you, or saying you shouldn’t be that scared. If it’s the ladder, she thinks that she’s out of your league. Cut your losses and finish the conversation awkwardly like the world meant for that to happen. She’s too stuck up for you anyway. Wouldn’t be worth it in the long run.
  
  BUT, if not. She’s into you. Right off the bat, ask if she’s seeing anyone. It lets her know of your intentions, makes you look like a real man that won’t beat around the bush, and will actually let you know if she is.
  
  If she is. Awkwardly end that conversation again… Unless you are feeling extra manly, say.. “Well, are you happy?”
  Then, she’ll give you a dirty look and walk away if she is… If not, she’ll pour her heart out to you and you LISTEN… and talk.
  
  If not. JACKPOT. Ask her what she’s doing this weekend. See if wants to catch ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’…. Which is AWESOME by the way….
  
  By then, you’ll probably be at someone’s destination, and either the conversation will end, or you’ll make plans for the weekend, exchange numbers, and be happy for the rest of the week.

  If they’re seriously refusing that as a reason, they obviously think you both can succeed without it. But it takes two to tango, and even if just one side(you) has doubts, then your dance is destined for failure….
