  I think there’s quite a simple way to think about this. If religion is false, then it’s not needed. If there isn’t a God, then religion is not needed.
  
  But if there is a God, then religion is certainly needed (especially if He says so!). If there is a God, then your opinion and my opinion about how bad eating some fruit was doesn’t matter at all.
  
  If God doesn’t exist, then nothing matters.
  If God exists, then nothing else matters.

  @ raddmadd: Actually, Jesus does not say it is an old idea. He says, “how can the groomsmen fast will the groom is with them? But the time is coming when the groom will depart, and then groomsmen will fast” (not word for word, but I’m lazy :P). I think that’s in Matthew…

  OK, sure. That’s a good test for miracles.
  
  Bible: By authenticity, do you mean it being written right around the time that it claims? Or do you mean the veracity of the events?
  I don’t think it can be proven whether or not it’s a biased source unless you prove it to be true or false. But, if it is unbiased to the point of falsehood, one would expect to see in the historical records contradictions by the Pharisees.
  
  1. Sorry, I forgot to mention that when the 500 people saw Jesus, they saw Him “ascend” into heaven. If they had not, then the leaders of Judaism (who certainly would have disproved it as true if they could have) would have asked for people who saw it and, when no evidence had come forth, would have denounced it as untrue. However, we see no historical evidence of that denouncement. On the other hand, if people had actually seen Jesus ascend, the evidence that we have today would logically follow; we don’t lack anything that we logically would have had.
  
  2. There’s no way the disciples could have hidden all that food. Think about it; let’s say everyone there ate had a quarter-pound meal (wouldn’t personally make me full, but let’s err on the side of caution). Multiply that by 5,000 (which was just the number of men, women and children could make it more, but let’s err on the side of caution). That’s 1,250 lbs. Divide that over the twelve disciples, and each person would have to be inconspicuously carrying ~100 lbs in his tunic. That, of course, would also not explain why the apostles would have died if they knew it was a lie, so, in hindsight, Jesus would have to be carrying all 1,250 lbs. Add that to the fact that no one noticed someone buying up half a ton of food and connected the dots that a huge crowd was just fed. I’d say it’d be a bigger miracle for Jesus to acquire half a ton of food (by pulling the money for it out of a hat), then hiding it on his person and then distributing it with no one noticing.
  
  3. Considering that most population estimates of Jerusalem at the time that I’ve seen are under 100,000 people, it would be more of a miracle for someone to write this when it wasn’t true and have all the Pharisees not object the facts.
  
  4. Kinda. Science, however, would predict that the crops would yield more the year after the no-plant year. God said He would make the crops grow more the year before. Scientifically, that would be the least productive year.
  And I was using Natural Selection as evidence on this one, too.

  See if your phone came with an install CD…if it doesn’t, then I would search for the install for your phone in Google. If neither of those work, then I wouldn’t know what to do.

  First of all, the tests:
  1 - Objective: no cave experiences, there must be someone else besides the actor of the “miracle” to verify that the event occurred.
  2 - Motive: eyewitnesses who affirmed the event can only be used if they have no motive in the event being true or if they have motive in the event being false.
  3 - No contradiction from hostile sources: a separate party that would have proved the even false if it had been, and had the resources to prove it false, but didn’t, points to the event actually happening.
  
  Now, the events:
  1 - Resurrection of Jesus:
  a - Objective: The Bible claims that over 500 people saw Jesus after His resurrection.
  b - Motive: Focusing on the 11 disciple that claim to have been there, all but one (John) were tortured and then killed for their beliefs. John was only boiled in oil, but he survived that and died of old age.
  c - Contradiction: Many Jewish writings exist from the time, but they do not contradict Biblical accounts.
  
  2 - Feeding of the 5,000:
  a - Objective: 5,000 people…
  b - Motive: People wouldn’t have a reason for claiming that they ate a meal that they didn’t.
  c - Contradiction: Again, the Talmud merely states that Jesus was a “sorcerer,” which seems pretty strong evidence that the Jews believed that something happened, but that it just wasn’t from God.
  
  3 - Pentecost:
  a - Objective: According to the Bible, a crowd witnessed the apostles talk, and each one heard in their own language. 3,000 of those believed.
  b - Motive: No reason to say that, when someone spoke, you heard them in your native language. If you didn’t hear that, and they claimed you did, then, being Jewish, you certainly wouldn’t believe them - you would have strong motive to denounce them if it didn’t happen.
  c - Contradiction: Historical sources do not contradict this.
  
  4 - Sabbath-year law:
  Explanation: The Old-Testament Law required the people to not plant on the seventh year. To make up for this, God would command the sixth year to produce triple.
  a - Objective: Let’s use the witness of natural selection. Let’s say person A believes that what they had of the Old Testament at the time was true, and person B did not. Person A would not plan, person B would. If nothing happened, person A would die, person B would be left. All believers would be weeded out, and the religion would last 7 years, give or take.
  b - Motive: As an impersonal force, natural selection has no reason to inline it’s forces towards believers.
  c - Contradiction: If the sixth year did not produce triple, Judaism would have died out. Natural selection would have proved it false if it had been, but it did not.
  
  I think four is good to start with…if you disagree with the tests, then there’s no need to post more (since we would want to talk about the test and not the examples), and, if you agree with the tests, then there should be no further need for examples.
