Alternatively, you may be able to cover your back if there is an option to make your own comments on the appraisal with something akin to “I am concerned that there is a suggested expectation of zero negative feedback which is unrealistic. I have been assured that common sense will prevail .. blah blah..” In other words, record your objection from point one on the appraisal?

Yep, that’s why I’m not bothering with the post any more either. Seems to me that there are silly games going on there.

My advice would be to give him alternative wordings and ask him what his objections to the alternatives are if poss.

If he won’t play ball, then looks like it’s back to the unions.

Hi there! Re the “cuirouser and curiouser” post … the OP used a very specific insult. That snippet suggests they know a lot about another user and their alternative ID.. hence Mrs Watson here comes to the conclusion that the OP must also have an alternative ID and is simply stirring it. :o) In my not-so-professional opinion of course!

What is the interpretation of the term “objective” there? Does it mean the same as performance target? Is it just a random “try not to get any negatives if you can”? or “your performance related pay will be affected by negatives”?

If the answer to that isn’t a clear and resounding “it’s meaningless nonsense dreamed up by meddling managers and will have no real impact on career or pay”, then your colleagues need to sit up and think.
