no, you’re not. people don’t ignore other people’s suicide posts because of others they have read before. and you helped him as best you could. when you get to a point like that guy did, what you need most is someone who cares who will talk to you until the feeling passes, and that’s what you did as much as you could.

there’s no magical formula for saying the right thing to make someone change their mind, and your words are as good as mine or anyone else’s. don’t worry.

Favorites: You are a fan of these people and waiting to be acknowledged by them.

Fans: These people are fans of yours and waiting to be acknowledged by you.

Friends: You can invite to your post (or any post!) as they will appear at the bottom of the post pages. You can also exchange email addresses privately through the Account Admin feature.

You can also add someone to your ‘friend’ list by clicking on the little blue man next to the username. You will be seen as a fan until your invite is accepted.

Nearly 1/3 of the world-wide population has at least one ‘mental illness’. So far, nobody is required to wear a badge with a list of disorders…so far! :D

Defining parameters of illnesses are ever changing and it seems ever expanding. Any looking at the list of symptoms for schizophrenia are apt to make claim to one or more. :) I, for instance, have an odd gait and posture at times. It is related to an injury that was not treated when I was a child. :) As an interesting side note, there is one particular astrological sign with ‘an unusual gait’ as a defining physical characteristic.

Odd word usage? Was Dr. Seuss mentally ill? Or the writers of silly, whimsical song lyrics? The Urban dictionary has many examples of ‘made up’ words and phrases that have become mainstream within certain cultures. :)

While I love the psych field in general, its lack of advancements and achievements disappoints me. I find much of it to be far too archaic for my personal liking. It was not so long ago that homosexuality was considered an illness.

Traditional psych tends to pigeon hole everyone to make them fit into a diagnostic category. There are studies that verify this; it’s a fact. You might find it interesting to look at the history of diagnosing mental illnesses. In particular, you might want to take a look at the workings behind the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Please note the word ’statistical’. :)

I’m not interested in any area of psych that does not allow for the spiritual aspect of life. Therefore, I lean towards parapsychology and transpersonal psychology. :)

I’ve had awesome experiences that I know have been real. Many have been shared in a workplace with others experiencing the same things at the same time. :) Sights, sounds…

A short story? I was on duty on the graveyard shift on a unit reputed to be prone to paranormal activity. The head nurse on duty let it be known that she had worked there for years and did not believe any of the stories as she had never ever seen anything at all! So there!

When it was 5 a.m. and time to turn in the night’s report, I went to the nurse’s station. The non-believing nurse said to me ‘Tell me what you see in the patient lounge’ I looked down the hallway and clearly saw a lady who had recently passed away. She was sitting on the sofa as real as could be like she was ready to start her day. :) I told the nurse. She said ‘Good! I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t see her!!’ lols She was a believer from that night on. :)

This site has people with strong beliefs and opinions. Some will see what you do and some will tell you what’s wrong with you. :D Take it for what it is. Your thoughts and beliefs are just as valid as those of the next guy. :)

I think the psych field needs to step up its game!
