  Hey there Kevin, I’m glad to see that you progressed into another beautiful day. We are glad you are still here, as is your family.
  
  I suffered with depression mostly as a late teenager, and have called a hotline myself. The biggest thing they were going to tell you, was that you need to go to the hospital (as much as we really don’t want to. at all). If, however, you aren’t ready to step towards professional help yet, here are some things you can try.
  
  First of all, drinking is fun. Alcohol tastes good. It’s a way to relax and hang out with friends, but when you are dealing with a mental illness like depression, drinking can send you into holes and situations that you normally wouldn’t choose for yourself at that moment in time. Alcohol is a depressant, it stops certain hormones from transmitting in your brain and slows down your frontal lobe (where we know your thoughts and decisions come from). Even if not permanently, I suggest you stop drinking until you have your depression under control. Then, if you honestly think you can handle it, drink with friends if you want, but start with halves or less.
  
  Studies have also shown that getting sunlight whenever possible helps increase our moods. Make sure you get some sunlight and exercise, as it increases endorphins and makes you happier!
  
  Most of all, it always helps to have a strong willed friend to confide in. Someone that will always help you help yourself.

  I’m of the opinion that it is now a new day, over there in the UK, and that you are feeling better, and are possibly in school. I am glad that your parents stopped fighting and you were able to get some rest.
  
  However, I am perplexed by the posts you write on here. You describe a situation of deep mental instability, but when you went to CAMHS, they released you. I know I live in the US, but correct me if I am wrong that if you are in risk of doing harm to others or yourself, they have to detain you - correct?
  
  When I was 15, I came to the realization that my mother’s everyday drinking habits were not normal. Nor was the hitting. It dropped me into a depression. I saw the bottom of every pit - but I eventually worked my way out and now I’m happy.
  
  The nature of your posts, and short clipped answers you give give us no insight to the kind of situation you are dealing with. And while I commend you on reaching out for help by at least calling someone you think you know, doing it over the internet is never a good idea (sorry, i know I’m being a broken record on that one).
  
  I am wondering, not if your situation is real, but if you are truly wanting help. Multiple times over people have given you numbers of anonymous, safe groups to call. Given you websites. Offered advice - but you turn it down with a wave of your hand and a simple, “No, that won’t work because ___”
  
  We WANT to help you - that’s why we are here! But we can only do so much. It’s up to you to change your situation. We can’t do it for you.

  I’d like to poke in what I think of as the “Medium” option, Anon:
  
  It seems like you are afraid or perhaps think you don’t know how to tell him how you are feeling. It seems to me that you haven’t brought up how you are feeling at all to him. Perhaps this is that time. If you are afraid of saying the wrong thing, write it down and edit it until it sounds right! This isn’t a job interview or audition, you can have a note-card! However, if he doesn’t take what you say (and therefore how you feel) seriously, you then need to tell him that this doesn’t seem to be working out; that you need someone who is, as you said, “Optimistic” and “supportive”. If he isn’t willing to work together with you to make the situation you are in ideal, then it’s time to move on.
  
  Sometimes we think we love someone, only to find out when we split that the love we once felt has simmered away. It doesn’t mean you don’t still care about the person, just that you two aren’t “meant to be”.
  
  Don’t be afraid to move out, break up, and get away from that comfort zone you have created for yourself. In order to be healthy and happy, sometimes we need to invoke change.

  This dream is just your brain’s way of coming to terms with everything that happened in that relationship. Sometimes our brains overemphasize what really happened in order to make us deal with it while we are in our waking life. If something that you are suppressing shows up so vividly while you are sleeping, it’s your brain dealing with it while you are asleep because you don’t want to while you are awake. It’s almost as if your brain is acting as your ex - the reason he is being so overly harsh about it in your dream is that it’s truly your mind saying “Hey, this is affecting your everyday thought process too often. You need to figure out why you are still bitter, and get some closure.”

  Well, if you and bestfriend have been friends for so long, how could he not know you were dating someone else? And if he did, he probably would not have held your hand under those circumstances.
  
  When you are in a relationship with someone, you make an important agreement to share certain parts of yourself (mentally or physically) with only that person for the time that you two are committed to each other. By holding another man’s hand, it sends a signal that you aren’t ready to devote everything into this relationship (which sounds either really new or old enough that you should probably kinda know better).
  
  For what my experience can account for, heterosexual men see physical signals of bonding as closer to the heart then as a friendship thing. I know it is in style (for lack of a better phrase) to hold hands with your besties these days, but out in the “real world”, it just isn’t the same. People have boundaries. Bestfriend more than likely has feelings for you, and was hurt when while you two were showing a physical connection, you brought up the fact that you share things with your man that you could never share with him right now.
  
  His ego is hurting pretty bad, and he probably feels led on. I agree with SouthernComfort in an apology and asking if he still feels comfortable in the friendly relationship you have, not a romantic one. And if you wouldn’t be holding hangs with bestfriend while in the company of your man, you shouldn’t do it when he isn’t around.
