Makes sense. I’ve never played video games so I’m probably missing out on all sorts of interesting acronyms. Thankfully, I don’t often hear random ones like MWF spoken aloud, so I don’t have to wonder too much. I have to go to sleep. So long, snarmadillo :P
I’m having an internal debate on why I dislike acronyms like MFW whereas I find it acceptable to use AFK.
I think its just the utility aspect. AFK comes up a lot, MFW isn’t so much a shortening of language for utility like AFK which arose out of gaming but instead is a meme-based expression for people who can’t come up with their own witticism when its required.
Ooh that clears that up, I thought that was just part of your reaction to the meaning of the acronym which you somehow left out of the story. Apparently you didn’t lol.
Lol let me know when you come up with one. I’m sure there are some out there, I’ll go look at them eventually. And what is MWF? Is that Monday Wednesday Friday? You said that someone said that somewhere and I hadn’t heard it before.
If it weren’t for you, i wouldn’t have learned that nobody has a clue why music can sound happy or sad to people. No lameness! Goodnight :)
lol I had no idea what afk meant.
I got plenty of wonderful sleep, had a fine time at work, it was a pretty day. I’m confused about various things, but not really worried, so pretty good :)
Well there’s still time to be unlazy today :)
That must be awful for you. You should just always assume that I’m delightedly thinking through your thoughts or that I got weirdly sidetracked by my own which have absolutely no negative reflection on you because it’ll be true for all of the times I’m not distracted by other neat things lol.
Haha well I’m naturally nervous all the time when someone doesn’t respond, like…all…the…time. I’m terrible like that. So, in any case, assume I’m panicking.
I dunno. Respond at some point so I don’t have cascading panic attacks.
But I think I just don’t want to jump the gun on the issue. I don’t think for a moment that gender roles are somehow inbred into us or we can’t progress past, as we have done a lot, but I do think that we can’t jump the gun and say that our physiology has no impact upon our psychology. That seems fundamentally unscientific.
Hahaha calm down and thanks for your input. You don’t have to be afraid of talking to me. That makes sense I guess. I think I’ll have to more clearly define in my head what differences I don’t actually agree with in order to start thinking about this.
See? Theres the fear in me. That is why I hate this topic. It’s like the topic of native land rights or something, white male guilt, ever leading us to evade the nature of issues and just throw blind sympathy at problems.
I didn’t mean to suggest the age old stereotype of the hormonal women. I meant to suggest that cycles of estrogen and progesterone differ in timing and severity from that of testosterone.
My experience tells me that men and women behave very differently. Can I really accurately comment on nature versus nature? Probably not.
I think women go through a lot more hormonally at points in their lives, and at that infamous and regular interval, then men do and if that doesn’t produce a psychological difference well…that strains credulity.
I mean we have different chemicals effecting our brains at different times and in different quantities, I’m sure this has an effect on our behavior. And the fact that the masculine and feminine dichotomy’s have existed cross culturally, even independantly, for so long (really since the origin of historical records) speaks to some real differences borne out of our natures…or a miraculous similarity between EVERY ancient culture.
The hard part of addressing this question is everyone is afraid to attack it because they don’t want to seem sexist. I feel that fear even now in responding to you.
I think we have to separate clearly, the normative from the descriptive. Your question is a descriptive one. And as far as that goes, yes, through nature and through nurture I think there are significant behavioral differences.
I ranted at significant length on various things here and cut them, but perhaps that is a taste of my opinion.
To what role we can overcome our natures, or to what extent this happens over time and as a result of technology as you suggest, seems to me almost to be an unsolvable riddle. But that we have some differences born of chemical differences that seems obvious.
That’s disappointing. Lol I thought that clarity was pretty much all that that class had left to offer, done away with that too have they?
Hey do you think that men and women are very different? I kinda think that they don’t have very significant differences in the way that they operate mentally, and most of the differences are imposed by society, but other people I’ve spoken to think that that’s all wrong. I mean, I know evolution must have shaped us, and the effects have undoubtedly lingered, even as technology has made the evolutionary roles sort of obsolete, but I don’t know, I just don’t buy that they don’t get insulted and flattered and everything in basically all the same ways. I know I’d need a scientist or something to give me real answers, but I was just curious what you thought.
Oh haha well did you learn anything from avatar? I’m terrible at studying in front of TV. I tell myself I can do it, but it never works out. Unless sports are on. One of my favorite things is to walk in and out of some nice memorized movie like the first harry potter while baking something in the kitchen.
Yes, the long long ago lol. It’s funny how many kids learn a bunch of Japanese by watching anime.
I think I watched the movie the last airbender. It was bad. the lines are what killed it mostly. Poor M Night Shamalan. the last of his credibility. I’d still watch anything he did though.
Its not really worth it, and I can think of anime that are beautifully done and make avatar look ridiculous and yet it has this appeal that after you watch it a while it really sticks with you.
And I was fourteen when it came out so I get a little slack.
You know I learned all my japanese while watching reruns. Hey I hadn’t met you yet I don’t think. It was the before time :P
Lovely! Not the eye thing, I’m sorry about that, but memorizing and watching avatar sounds fun. I never got into that, but I have a friend who watched it al the time.
“Heaven lies about us in our infancy
Shades of the prison house begin to fade upon the growing boy”
“But for those obstinate questionings of sense and outwards things…
Blank misgivings of a creature moving about in worlds not realized”
ect :)
My creaky body is getting the junk food study treatment, I’m also doing something I did this summer which is wierd yet moderately effective which is studying while re-watching a series I’ve already seen. In this case, the very childish yet disarming and very charming Avatar.
My eye will go back to normal when the stress levels equalize. I have a feeling i twill go haywire until christmas.
Sorry about your eye, that’s awful. I hope it goes away soon.
That is just rationalizing, and probably won’t help your creaky body any.
The show wasn’t too bad. I sort of wanted to sneak away at first, but there were so few people that it would have been rude. I’m glad I stayed. Even if I don’t care too much for all of their ideas, the underlying tone of tolerance and love made it alright and I do appreciate people bravely performing.
I drink a ton of tea these days, I’m considering going and getting an energy drink under the umbrella justification of study purposes but that may just be rationalizing.
Oh and by the way: my eye twitch is starting up again.
That sounds nice to me. I think I’ll go check out some sort of skit that’s going to occur in the basement of my dorm, but I bet it’ll be lame and I’ll come back soon. Is it caffeinated? Tea is good for you, you’ll just smell delicious.
