Mini-Profile

I sing the body electric. I moved 9 tons of dirt with shovel and wheelbarrow in four days. Those are the highlights. Workaday, I’m a student and a teacher of history. I enjoy history because there is nothing I can do which doesn’t make me a better historian. I also like people. I am firmly dedicated to doing what I can to mitigate loneliness. I’ve seen people to terrible things to each other and worse things to themselves because they felt alone, and I have trouble abiding that. I’m intuitive and empathetic, but even so I tend to be fairly cautious. Look twice, never leap. I’m a functionalist and I have an open mind. I believe in the benefit of the doubt, and I do not think anyone has ever done anything because they thought it was the wrong thing to do. I do not believe in righteous indignation. Fitzgerald wrote that, “every man suspects himself of at least one cardinal virtue.” Mine is loyalty. I realize that’s not traditionally a cardinal virtue, but neither was his example.
Also, I like dogs and baseball.
