2009-05-15 20:34:33 on Swine flu is not a threat, yet people are freaking
100,000’s of people go to the hospital each year for influenza and like 3000 have the swine flu…got to love the media….they really know how to blow crap out of proportion.
It’s simple - maintain a healthy life but please don’t be so obsessed that you have a bottle of hand sanitizer with you 24/7, you need some germs to keep your immunity system strong and ‘up to date’.
Wash your hands before meals, after going potty and just be happy!
Happy living!
2009-02-22 13:02:34 on I have never met my father.
I didn’t read all the replies. This is your dad regardless of what he has done or hasn’t done.
You have a natural curosity and that’s healthy.
Tell you mom how you feel and that you would like to reach out to your dad so you can get to know him. In the end, you must form your own opinion of him for yourself and they only way that will happen is if you get to know him as a person.
My advice, when and if you do meet him, try not to let what you have heard affect your opinion of him.
If he doesn’t accept the opportunity to meet him and get to know him…then you will ahve to accept it.
He may be wondering what you think of him based on his relationship with your mom.
Reach out to him and see how it goes. Try not to imagine it going great or awful, for the first couple of times maybe very uncomfortable but don’t let that deter you. Keep trying as long as you both have an interest in getting to know each other.

2009-02-21 05:45:07 on Almost returned, need some advice.
Ok so here is the advice from two females:
My 13 y/o daughter - maybe she’s not allowed to date yet or maybe she just likes you as a friend, either way you aren’t going to know until you ask her.
My answer (42 y/o female) My daughter is really really smart and I agree. Don’t spin on unknowns, get the answers straight from the source, accept that it maybe what you don’t want to hear and then you can move on with your own life.

I suggest a tattoo…
2009-02-08 13:06:12 on okay im 16 and I want a baby I can barely stand it!
what experiences do you have with a baby? REAL experiences…not fantasies. If you don’t have any, I suggest you fulfill your need for the time being by working in a shelter for abandoned kids if there is one in your area.
I am 41 - what you want is not an easy feat at age 16. Have you sat down and considered the full costs of having a baby, diapers, formula, doctor bills, clothes, food, furniture, toys, car seats, stroller, bottles, thre is so much to consider.
You are responsible for your child, not your parents, to want something and then hope to have funds provided for you by them, is an unfair request.
2009-02-08 07:29:49 on Career or Family?
yes, I have, i have two children 3 and 13 (boy and girl respectively)
Jules, yes, my kids and I appreciate everything we have. maybe more because of my upbringing and the lessons I learned, but I passed them on to them as well.
14 children — no thanks —- but I won’t take over this post with the responsibility that comes with using fertility drugs.
2009-02-08 07:16:28 on Career or Family?
the happiness comes from balance of both and lots of love!
2009-02-08 07:12:49 on Career or Family?
I chose both and my kids and I are very happy!
And yes, start your career first, make a name for yourself, do well, then have you family!
2009-02-08 07:02:55 on Has Government gotten to big?
Bradenton - we are going to have to just disagree. IF you want equal ground move to a socialist controlled country and see how you like it.
I know many people, myself in including, who had very very meager beginnings, but we took advantage of the public eduction available to us(one of the worst in the state I live in)and I didn’t even do well in school because I had never been diagnosed with dyslexia until I was an adult.
But I never gave up, I kept trying, I failed, I tried and failed and today, I am certainly not rich, but I lead a very comfortable middle class life and will encourage my children to do the same or better.
The Constitution preamble…it is a guarantee to PROTECT (NOT PROVIDE) life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And it says all men are CREATED equal. But who is responsible to MAINTAIN that status? The individual or the government? When the Constitution was written, women did not have a right to vote and blacks were not free - the government eventually had to implement changes in those areas based upon the collective efforts of members within the society.
I agree with Crosenblum, the legal status of corporations and the exemptions should be withdrawn.
Put the ownness of success back onto the owners.
People need to live on the pride of their own achievements and that will only happen when government withdraws from intervening and acting as a crutch for those which rely on such support.
By no means am I saying it would be easy. Our infrastructure has slowly been imploding since the late 70’s and 80’s, I just hope it is a cycle what can reverse itself but I don’t think it will.
A great depression is very possible, if it happens each individual is going to have to get through on their own with tenacity and survival skills.
I would suggest you hone your fire making skills without your bic or matches.
Give a man a fish you feed him for the day, teach a man to fish and he will provide for himself for a lifetime.

2009-02-07 07:45:56 on Has Government gotten to big?
ok and I am typing with a three year old in my lap…typos are duly noted as well. LOL
2009-02-07 07:44:35 on Has Government gotten to big?
My question was is Gov’t too big? A question is not a statement.
Have you read the US consitution? I suggest you start there if you haven’t. You will see that the Moral Code of our country written by our founding fathers, and even all the amendments refer to the protection of the rights to our society.
It is not a doctrine which gives government the control is it wishes exercise upon corporations, companies and individuals.
As to rhetoric - I suggest you look at the failing Social Security program created by government to start with if you wish for an example of government’s intervention and it’s failure.
Why won’t the bailouts work - because the greed of the corporations has not been addressed, the failings of people themselves to live within their means vs. keeping up with the Jones, which government helped with when they came up with Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac, Welfare, and other programs which don’t allow people to try and fail until the ulitmately succeed.
