  Hi Captain, Guess I have a little more life experience (does that mean I am older? … yep but not ancient lol) I dont want to give anyone a false hope about anything, its life itself that will be ok not just the current problem. Life as it is now may seem the be all and end all but look back at your own life and see how it has changed and know it will change again… and again … not every change is good but not all are bad either so in the long run life will be ok again. If Billi`s folks do decide they can get the op then they will be the kind who will look after the animal too. I also know what you mean about people though, three of our five dogs are rescues and we have had them in the past too, and not everyone can financially or emotionally give their all to an animal. Hey it looks like we are getting on here lol …. My concern is for Billi and I hope the right person could help the person and not just the dog with the cancer.

  Grr Captain you are a cold person … maybe in a harsh world what you say is true but Billi has written for a shoulder and a helping hand. Yes be honest and open but please be a bit more gentle. Maybe if I had not had this exact experience and it had such a good outcome then I may think you had a point, harsh or not, but in our case it has been the best thing we did. He even tries to get fresh with our other dogs now and then wonders why he cant stay put ! (hope thats not too graphic). He also puts the younger dogs in their place once again and his way of doing that is by turning them on their back and holding them to the floor for a second or two then letting them go totally unhurt. Hows that for a three legged dog who only had his leg off a couple of weeks ago ? .. and yes we have more than one dog … 5 in fact so he lives very much in a “pack” of which he is still the leader and respected by all. That was something he visably lost when he still had his leg and the cancer.
  So in all what you say Captain is not wrong…but…. there is plenty of room for argument in what you say…. I also think reading your profile Billi that you could do with a friend in more ways than one at the moment, I feel a cry for help that goes beyond your dog. You need to find someone to talk to and someone you can rely on to support you … keep your chin up, life will find a way of sorting things out. An old friend once said to me “Nothing happens to chance”, I am never sure what it means until I look back after an event and then I can see the wisdom in things that seem truly awful, not always, but most times….. x

  This is something that has happened to us in the last few weeks. We have a 10 year old Dalmation. He got cancer in his front leg and the vet advised against surgery because he was a big dog. Eric, our dog, seemed to tell us he was not ready to die even though at first we had accepted what the vet had said. By this time he had totally lost the use of his leg and it just dragged at his side. I asked the vet to take a chance so they xrayed him to make sure the cancer had not gone to his chest. He has now had the op and is once again top dog bounding all over the place. You would never believe he only had three legs. He does get tired but he is also an old guy.
  I am in the UK but surely they have animal charities where you are. Or how about calling a local radio station and ask if anyone would help your family and above all your beloved dog.
  I wish you well and send you love and hope, your dog will be good with three legs so push all you can.
