You can greet a Muslim in this way! Infact he will feel happy for this but it is preferred that he already knows that you are a non-Muslim to avoid misunderstandings. Only the incomplete-knowledged Muslims would react in other way! so it’s not bad if you say “Salam i.e Peace” too! :)

I just realized that my second sentence sounded arrogant. My appologies! >.<

What I truely meant was: Since I am not Muslim, would it still be proper for me to greet someone of Islam in this manner, or would it be considered disrespectful?

Thank you for teaching me that greeting.

Since I am American and white, would it still be proper for me to greet someone of Islam in this manner, or would it be considered disrespectful? I would love to greet this way, but I would understand culturaly if it were wrong of me to do so.

Hi rcky! you asked what was proper Muslim greeting… in daily basis or life you have to say “As-salamu-Alaikum” (i.e Peace be upon you)and the answer is “Wa-alaikum as-salam” (i.e Peace be upon you too) This is an Islamic greeting known to every Muslim! :)
