  I don’t think anyone is pro-abortion. I am however pro-safety. Abortion happens, even when it is illegal. The end result is harm, and death to the women who are so desperate that they must risk it all.
  
  I respect the passion of the people who are anti-abortion. I do not however view them as pro-life. I would love to see their passion directed in the following areas:
  Poverty
  Abuse
  Drug addiction and the wreakage it causes
  War
  Exploitation
  Starvation/malnutrition
  The abduction of our children
  Homelessness
  Rape
  Hatred
  Animal abuse
  
  The areas above affect life, affect all of our lives. What you do with your body is low on my list of things to worry about. What we are doing to our world and communities is pretty high.

  Hey anon. I can completely relate with you.
  
  My parent taunted me for my looks. I was adopted and that didn’t help. They were a very beautiful family and I was half native American. Needless to say, they found plenty of bad things to say about me and it stuck. I grew feeling like I was fat dirty lazy little girl.
  
  When I was in my teens I started using drugs just to belong. All the pretty girls belonged to cheer or sports clubs, I belonged to the club out in the parking lot.
  
  After I got clean and sober my feelings of insecurity still followed me. I let men use me because I thought I wasn’t attractive enough to fall in love or deserve romance.
  
  One day I met the man of my dreams…he loved everything about me except the fact I was about 20 pounds overweight. I almost killed myself trying to please him; trying to make up for the fact that I was unattractive.
  
  In the end I ended up homeless, drunk, and demoralized. It was the worse time in my life. I would cover up the mirrors because I couldn’t stand to look at myself.
  
  So what worked? You won’t believe this, but I had a friend who was an artist. I did what I feared the most. I became a nude art model. It was amazing to see what I hated turned into art. It gave me another view of myself and helped me pay for college (btw, I was 30 when I was in college)
  
  Despite I was afraid to leave the house due to how I looked I am now a fairly balanced woman. True, I am not a standard beauty, but I was not near as hideous as I thought.
  
  What messed me up was basing my esteem in the opinions of others. Never a good idea. Look at the women around you. The ones with the most confidence are the most beautiful. Look at Barbra Streisand or that chick from Sex in the City (Sarah Jessica something). They are not standard beauties either, but there personality simply glows.
  
  When you are down on yourself you are actually taking away from the beauty that you have. It is a downward spiral.
  
  My husband (different man)loves me, all of me. I still work on my esteem every day. Find your own power and stomped around the world…

  rhubarb and custard, this is your 4th post about your sister..are the other suggestions not working for you?
  
  I find it is helpful to simply be a good person and try and do good things. Eventually it brings people around.
  
  When I am wrong, admit it and apologize.
  When I am vulnerable, state it an expose myself emotionally.
  When I am scared, say it out loud.
  When I am angry, see what my part it.

  I give up. Help.com has turned into a high school drama. I was so impressed with the compassion, caring, and respect for other people’s opinions on this site.

  Great post Fizz, I think people who believe different things can be friends and even have an intelligent debate or discussion about what they believe. I have many friends who are Christians who I go to when I have questions about their faith.
  
  I think the deciding factor that dictates the fierce arguments among posters is not what they believe about religion, but rather what they believe about their own opinions. There are those who are always searching to include new information and new ways of looking at things.
  People who want to grow and change and evolve. This includes people of all faiths. Unfortunately there are also people who are threatened by change and to whom a debate or questioning challenges…in return they get angry and defensive.
  
  Since all discussion about religion involves personal belief, the discussions often deteriorate when you have open minded and closed minded people involved.
