2008-09-27 09:10:26 on I know most of you don’t like me and I don’t blame you.
Dan, I always thought you were one of the most liked people on this site. Sometimes our doubts get the best of us, and then we create what we see by thinking it. You are a very well-liked person and you will experience the love of others here and in real life because that’s how you treat others.
2008-08-28 20:25:09 on American Elections.
Here’s my reasons: Although Obama doesn’t have that much experience as a politition (playing the political games that get people into trouble and change their character).. its obvious by his past service record that he truly believes in the ideals he talks about, the real change.
If you look at his experience, he wanted to be president from the beginning and worked as a volunteer to get there.. he didnt do the traditional route that can make a person jaded and loose their idealism. I also think he’s a realist. Whether or not he is too democrat (or leftist) will probably be his downfall.. plus just the fact that his name sounds muslim will keep the 53% bushies from voting for him. But I think that we finally have hope of putting the nation back on the track of a technological leader, and single-mindedly working together that got this country to be the world superpower it is. Its the pessimism and divided attitude that is destroying the nation. McCain will just continue to perpetuate that sentiment
2008-08-11 11:03:15 on were asking help from the local library, becuase were homeless..
Right now the best thing to do is keep up hope. Find food or money from shelters and food banks when you can and be resourceful. You can’t be a victim, you have to take the choices you have and make the best of them. Good luck

2008-06-22 00:28:06 on What do you think has brought about the suicidal urges, and desires to self mutilate, that we see as epidemic today?
I have to say that these “answers” to the question why are people hurting themselves that blame society as a whole and all these other abstract problems (that I might remind you people have been doing for centuries and getting no results) is only furthering the problem. Silverwings, you and Sully are doing the same thing that you are saying “society is doing to our children.” You are suggesting that things are not as they should be and there are horrible problems looming over us that needs to be solved or that we need to find solace from in places like help.com… HELLO, thinking like that is what leads people down the path to self-destruction.
People that kill themselves were not infected with these wide-spread abstract, generational problems you’re talking about. People are still people.. and as Sully pointed out, only recently have people kept track for sure of how many suicides occur. I’ll bet before records were kept there were far more than we would think.
No matter what “caused” a person to kill themselves eventually it all started with putting their blinders on to the outside world and focusing on some specific problems and blowing them out of proportion (kinda like you guys are in this post)
Actually, I think Akithma has summed it up quite succinctly. ..fear and doubt.
If we individually eliminate fear and doubt and the spread of it, and live by example, it will grow. Eventually there will be less suicide and self-harm. But it has to start individually with self-aware people and we have to be careful that what we write and tell others is not filled with fear-mongering and doom-filled futures with stupid people and growth hormones that cause us to mutate.
STOP THE MADNESS!!
Jeez people! whether or not these things are happening does not determine whether we live happily or encourage other to do so. So, lets be apart of the solution and not the problem by starting right here, okay>
Thanks.
2008-06-19 09:12:44 on What do you think has brought about the suicidal urges, and desires to self mutilate, that we see as epidemic today?
The reason for so much violence against oneself, from cutting and suicide to just the many things we as humans do to ourselves everyday like go to jobs we hate and creating lives that are masochistic stems from just one thing:
THINKING TOO MUCH!
It’s true. Think of it this way, we are beings.. some may say animals and some may say spiritual beings, but like animals we are created to BE.. exist, enjoy the abundance of life that exists in the world.
I agree that TV and movies have something to do with it but only to the extent that we Watch them so much. When you eliminate the being from life and replace it with being immersed in things such as TV or even here on the internet, the more you immerse the more presence you loose. You are not BEING… you are living in your mind: in thoughts and feelings instead of being in touch with your body and soul.
There is Definitely a reason why people were less inclined to hurt themselves in the past: there just wasnt as much stimulation for the mind, and self-imposed mindless thinking.. In the 1800s there was less killing because people were forced to be with themselves.. there was suicide, but it came from thinking about some problem they thought they had too much.
All the problems we have are self-imposed. When one focuses on a problem it reduces the presence and power that being has been given.
So Silverwings, Hollywood is not the problem, it is one of the symptoms created by a society that chooses individually (you and I) to choose not just to be, but to live in our minds and invent problems lik ethe need for entertainment and too much thinking. It’s just like everything else. If we individually choose to be more present, our children will follow example and eventually Hollywood, music and our self-expression won’t be as dark and masochistic.
That’s my take
