  Little update for anyone interested, she ended up cheating on me with a coworker at a summer job she acquired. She cheated about 3 days after meeting him and completely felt no guilt towards me, left me for him, he then left her. She’s now bitter, and from what mutual friends say, “misses me”. Needless to say given my past of trust issues, this hurt me a lot when it happened. We broke up about 10 months ago, and I have now found someone that is turning out to be everything that I want. Hopefully it stays. Thanks again for all you guys’ help.

  Also, she can tell it’s an iffy situation, and genuinely wants me to talk to her about it, tell her how I feel. She wants to understand me. I can tell (I tend to be a very good judge of character) she genuinely cares about my feelings, she just sometimes doesn’t realize certain situations and how they might affect me when they arise.
  
  However this time she seems to have a slight idea, and realizes the iffy-ness of her opinion and just hoping that it will be okay, but I think she’ll come around.

  Regardless of our disagreement on the matter Zirbel, I do want to thank you and everyone else for replying to this and giving me your opinions. It’s so easy for me to shutdown and let things eat me from the inside, hence my slow but progressing struggle with depression (to which I can honestly say I’ve come a very long way with thanks to some key people including my girlfriend who is in a similar boat). But anyways, thank you guys for talking to me about this.
  
  I needed this. I’m going to give her a few days to think about this, (because when she thinks things over for a short amount of time, she begins to see things clearer and more objectively as I am doing now by trying to see her side of the situation) I will then nicely bring it up to her, let her know how I feel, and we will talk it out and see what goes from there. This isn’t the first time a situation like this has arisen, but each time it has we both gave ourselves a few days to objectively think and ended up coming to a strong, unified agreement, hopefully this will turn out the same way.

  That sounds like her. Your thoughts are mine exactly. I’ve been through a lot in my short 21 years and have a very old soul. I made a lot of mistakes in my past and have learned many hard lessons and I hope I have matured from them, hopefully she’ll grow in herself in the right way without experiencing half the stuff I have.

  I’ll take that as a yes. Ma’am I’m from the South, we believe in treating our women like Queens and then some. If they want to do their own thing and take care of themselves, by all means go for it, but we are their providers, their confidant, and their protectors and if they ever need us, we are there. If one of us is to be uncomfortable or sick, or feeling bad it should always be the man in our opinions. It’s not that we don’t think women are capable or strong enough, it’s that we believe they shouldn’t have to.
  
  Realist and modern seem to synonomous with bitterness in your context. By the way native German speaker? You had me fooled ma’am! Your English is impeccable.
