  we read an essay about something like this today o.O
  
  try controlling the way you judge people. obviously, you’re going to either approve or disapprove of the things that people do, but don’t be so quick to judge - instead, try seeing things from their point of view, make an effort to take a really compassionate look at what they do and why they do it. just being interested and trying to understand is not the same thing as advocating or disapproving… but once you really do understand where they’re coming from, your own judgments will be worth a lot more.
  
  and even better, when you diversify what you understand in this way, it’ll make you more comfortable with what you believe, and more firm in why you believe it :D

  there are TONS of forums, communities, bulletin boards and whatnot on the internet.
  
  seriously, there’s one for every single topic you could possibly imagine, and many that you could not, and many more that you’d never WANT to.
  
  so first thing you should do is narrow down what you’re looking for. don’t think “i want to talk to people,” but rather “i want to talk to ____ kind of people about _____ kinds of things”
  
  second thing… well, then you start to search the vast internets for those kinds of things.

  last time they wanted more mods, they asked all the existing mods to nominate a regular, frequent user who they thought would make a good mod.

  actually i forgot the invisible step 4, which is:
  
  do all of that when the admins are recruiting new mods.
  
  i mean, you can do all of that anytime, and make friends and whatnot, but it’ll only turn you into a mod in certain specific circumstances.
  
  i think the site is full-to-bursting with mods at the moment, but then again, i’m really out of touch lately and you shouldn’t listen to anything i say anyways :D
